Experiments in protein and DNA purification and analysis.<br />

Cell fractionation techniques. Enzyme purification and<br />

analysis. Physical techniques will include use of<br />

spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, various forms<br />

of gel electrophoresis, molecular weight determinations and<br />

use of the ultracentrifuge.<br />

Food law a detailed examination of the role and function of<br />

the National Food Authority and appropriate committees.<br />

A study of the Food Standards Code. The role of the<br />

environmental health officer in food inspection, sampling<br />

and seizure procedures.<br />

Accommodation standards: examination of environmental<br />

health risks associated with residential accommodation (hostels,<br />

rooming houses, etc.), and temporary accommodation facilities<br />

including camping areas.Role of the environmental health<br />

officer in ensuring health and safety of occupants.<br />

SC568 Applied Food Science and Inspection<br />
