On completion of this subject students will have increased<br />

competence in a range of skills such as concept mapping,<br />

time management, team problem solving, written and oral<br />

communication; presentation, reading and notation<br />

techniques; and critical thinking. They will use these skills<br />

to augument their studies in all'hi~ci~iines, and be able to<br />

apply them to the workplace.<br />

To provide students with the possibility of interdisciplinary<br />

study. To encourage a Liberal Arts perspective on learning<br />

thereby facilitating the exploration of insights and<br />

perspectives of disciplines in addtion to those in which<br />

students already study.<br />

To develop awareness of how knowledge is generated. To<br />

facilitate active, flexible learning styles; and a positive<br />

attitude to life long learning. Students should gain<br />

understanding of the relevance of both the skills and the<br />

substantive themes of the course to their participation in the<br />

community, work and the international arena.<br />
