Objectives and Content<br />
Introduction to the tone, essential syntax and the writing<br />
system of the Vietnamese language: the use of kinship terms,<br />
particles and 'articles'; greetings; the individual; family and<br />
time.<br />
The teaching method is based on class work. As no previous<br />
knowledge of the language is presumed, some time will be<br />
devoted to the description of the language, the present<br />
system of writing and the essential syntax of the language.<br />
By working through a series of graded and contextualised<br />
dialogues students will begin to develop reading, writing,<br />
listening and speaking skills.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />
This subject is a continuation of Vietnamese 1A. The focus<br />
will be on the question of tense, usage of conjunctions and<br />
more complex particles and further development of reading,<br />
writing, listening and speaking skills. The content of this<br />
subject includes the usage of some important preverbs and<br />
postverbs, dimensions and expressions of distance,<br />
comparisons, directions and modes of transport, the human<br />
body and health terms.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />
Consolidation of knowledge gained in the first year of the<br />
Vietnamese major and enhancement of students'<br />
communicative competence. The context of language usage<br />
covers aspects of daily life in Australia.<br />
Students will read and analyse texts to introduce new<br />
structures and vocabulary. For the listening and speaking<br />
sections, emphasis is placed on the active production of the<br />
language to promote active recall of vocabulary items and<br />
their usage in the appropriate context in accordance with<br />
accepted conversational conventions.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />
Continuation of development of skills in written and<br />
spoken Vietnamese. The focus is on communicative active<br />
oral and written skills for a wide range of contexts. Topics<br />
covered include contemporary issues directly relevant to the<br />
Vietnamese community of Australia, such as health,<br />
education, the law and immigration.<br />

The objective if this subject is to continue to develop skills<br />
in written and spoken Vietnamese. The focus is on<br />
communicative active oral and written communication in a<br />
wide range of contexts. Topics covered include areas directly<br />
relevant to the country of Vietnam such as history,<br />
geography, trade and tourism.<br />
Students read and analyse texts to introduce new structures<br />
