to provide an entry to postgraduate study for those<br />

people with excellent business experience but no<br />

formal undergraduate qualifications and who, by virtue<br />

of their age, experience, work responsibilities and other<br />

commitments, are in practical terms excluded from<br />

undergraduate and TAFE certificate courses; and<br />

to prepare candidates for further ~ost~raduate studies<br />

in business information technology.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

In order to be accepted into this course, applicants should<br />

have:<br />

a recognised undergraduate or ~ost~raduate degree in a<br />

discipline other than computing; and/or<br />

at least five years significant and relevant industry<br />

experience; and/or<br />

professional experience in a computing environment.<br />

Course structure<br />

To cater for the diverse needs of a range of experienced<br />

applicants, the course consists of four subjects from the<br />

Graduate Diploma of Information Systems. Students will<br />

be able to select subjects appropriate to their needs<br />

provided the prerequisite requirements of the subject are<br />

met.<br />

Progression to the graduate diploma or masters<br />

program<br />

On completion of the Graduate Certificate of Information<br />

Systems, students gaining entry to the Graduate Diploma<br />

of Information Systems, or Masters of Information Systems<br />

will be admitted with advanced standing. Entry is not<br />

automatic and is subject to academic performance and<br />

selection quotas.<br />

The Graduate Certificate of Information Systems is a full-<br />

persons without formal qualifications who demonstrate<br />

to a task, role or project requiring skills in Manufacturing<br />

Management may be admitted to the program at the<br />

considered discretion of the Selection Committee.<br />

Management (Manufacturing) may receive full credit<br />

towards the Graduate Diploma in Management<br />

(Manufacturing) for subjects already undertaken in the<br />

Normally, classes will be held at Ernst & Young premises.<br />

This program may also be offered as an in-house training<br />

~074 Graduate Certificate in<br />

Taxation and Finance<br />

This program is a two semester, part-time course. Offered<br />

for the first time in Australia, this unique course will open<br />

access to tertiary education to a large number of practising<br />

accountants and managers who, until now, have been<br />

effectively excluded from tertiary education or have had no<br />

involvement in it for some time.<br />

Course objectives<br />

It is expected that, at the completion of the course,<br />

candidates:<br />

will be provided with an intensive practical course of<br />

study in taxation and finance to better equip them to<br />

deal with taxation and finance issues in practice as<br />

professional taxation, financial and accounting advisers;<br />

will have a recognised qualification which will assist<br />

them in developing their careers in business; and<br />

will be equipped with suitable skills necessary to<br />

continue with further postgraduate study in taxation<br />

and finance.<br />

As candidates will already be established in business<br />

careers, it is expected that the key vocational outcomes<br />

will arise from better current job performance as well<br />

as new opportunities opening in the broader fields of
