Satisfactory completion of an appropriate Victorian<br />

Year 12 or its equivalent.<br />

<strong>2001</strong> VCE prerequisites: Units 3 <strong>and</strong> 4 – a study<br />

score of at least 25 in English. Applicants are<br />

advised to undertake an art-related study, such as<br />

Art or Visual Communication <strong>and</strong> Design in Units 3<br />

<strong>and</strong> 4 to assist in the development of a folio.<br />

This course aims to produce graduates with a<br />

broad underst<strong>and</strong>ing of communication design,<br />

media studies <strong>and</strong> programming as applied to the<br />

world wide web <strong>and</strong> computer interactive<br />

mediums. Graduates will have highly developed<br />

<strong>and</strong> relevant skills in communication design for<br />

electronic mediums, typography, animation, 3D<br />

modelling, audio <strong>and</strong> video specialisation<br />

requirements as applied to electronic mediums.<br />

studio-based environment which will prepare<br />

<strong>and</strong> integrating design engineering knowledge<br />

<strong>and</strong> skills through project based activities.<br />

Design studio, mechanical design, design for<br />

manufacture, project management, human<br />

aspects in design.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Graduates will find employment in industries<br />

dealing in the design, development <strong>and</strong><br />

manufacture of domestic products or the<br />

automobile industry. Their role will be primarily in<br />

the area of design, innovation, project<br />

Get a Taste for Design –<br />

Short <strong>Course</strong>s<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> is offering short courses to give<br />

you ‘h<strong>and</strong>s on’ experience in the elements<br />

of design. The short course runs Tuesday<br />

27 June to Friday 30 June <strong>and</strong> Tuesday<br />

19 September to Friday 22 September<br />

2000, 10am to 4pm at the National School<br />

of Design, Prahran Campus.<br />

The introductory courses consist of a<br />

series of lectures <strong>and</strong> workshops<br />

introducing each of the disciplines offered<br />

in National School of Design. It allows<br />

secondary students the opportunity to<br />

explore the areas that might otherwise not<br />

be considered as a possible career option.<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> staff <strong>and</strong> senior students will<br />

be available for advice on preselection <strong>and</strong><br />

the selection process into the School. This<br />

is an excellent course for current VCE<br />

students to build a folio for entrance to<br />

further study, <strong>and</strong> get a taste of tertiary life.<br />
