Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design)
Duration
Three years full-time for Bachelor of Design.
An honours year is also available.
Location
Prahran.
Entry requirements
Satisfactory completion of an appropriate Victorian
Year 12 or its equivalent.
2001 VCE prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study
score of at least 25 in English. Applicants are
advised to undertake an art-related study, such as
Art or Visual Communication and Design in Units 3
and 4 to assist in the development of a folio.

Course overview
This course aims to produce graduates with a
broad understanding of communication design,
media studies and programming as applied to the
world wide web and computer interactive
mediums. Graduates will have highly developed
and relevant skills in communication design for
electronic mediums, typography, animation, 3D
modelling, audio and video specialisation
requirements as applied to electronic mediums.
Major studies
Multimedia design, three dimensional design,
communication design, typographic design, image
making, and media studies.
Career opportunities
Design consultancies, information technology
companies, media and entertainment studios,
advertising agencies and government
instrumentalities.
Professional recognition
Membership of the Australian Graphic Design
Association, Membership of Multimedia Industry
Network and Associate Membership of the Design
Institute of Australia.

Learning (IBL) is also available.

Hawthorn and Prahran.

Satisfactory completion of an appropriate Victorian
Year 12 or its equivalent.

Mathematical Methods and one of Physics,
Chemistry, Biology, Specialist Mathematics,
Information Technology (Information Systems) or
Psychology.

Course overview
This course offers a balanced combination of
study in the areas of industrial design, mechanical
design, design for manufacture and management.
The program has been developed around a
studio-based environment which will prepare
students for professional practice by exercising
and integrating design engineering knowledge
and skills through project based activities.

Design studio, mechanical design, design for
manufacture, project management, human
aspects in design.
Career opportunities
Graduates will find employment in industries
dealing in the design, development and
manufacture of domestic products or the
automobile industry. Their role will be primarily in
the area of design, innovation, project
management and manufacturing.

Membership of The Institution of Engineers,
Australia and the Australian Association of
Industrial Design.

Get a Taste for Design –
Short Courses
Swinburne is offering short courses to give
you ‘hands on’ experience in the elements
of design. The short course runs Tuesday
27 June to Friday 30 June and Tuesday
19 September to Friday 22 September
2000, 10am to 4pm at the National School
of Design, Prahran Campus.
The introductory courses consist of a
series of lectures and workshops
introducing each of the disciplines offered
in National School of Design. It allows
secondary students the opportunity to
explore the areas that might otherwise not
be considered as a possible career option.
Swinburne staff and senior students will
be available for advice on preselection and
the selection process into the School. This
is an excellent course for current VCE
students to build a folio for entrance to
further study, and get a taste of tertiary life.
