<strong>Course</strong> overview<br />

Certificate IV: designed to develop job-specific<br />

skills, knowledge <strong>and</strong> attitudes necessary to<br />

perform specific electronic publishing work<br />

appropriate to ASF 4 level in the Australian<br />

St<strong>and</strong>ards Framework. Major studies include:<br />

typography <strong>and</strong> layout, image input - scanning,<br />

graphic manipulation, illustration applications,<br />

systems management, electronic image assembly.<br />

Certificate III: provides training for people who wish<br />

to pursue a career in the prepress sector of the<br />

printing, electronic publishing, or graphic arts<br />

industries, or those already employed but needing<br />

to upgrade their skills. Major studies include: print<br />

industry structure <strong>and</strong> methods, computer<br />

operations, typography <strong>and</strong> layout, DTP<br />

applications, illustration <strong>and</strong> graphics applications.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Certificate IV: enables graduates to pursue a career<br />

in the printing <strong>and</strong> publishing pre-press industries,<br />

as well as introducing the skills required to plan<br />

<strong>and</strong> run a small business in the field.<br />

Certificate III: entry level employment in a broad<br />

range of categories within the graphic arts <strong>and</strong><br />

with software development skills – program design,<br />

code development, systems analysis <strong>and</strong> design,<br />

project management <strong>and</strong> client interaction. Major<br />

studies include: programming, the analysis <strong>and</strong><br />

design of computer systems, the implementation<br />

<strong>and</strong> maintenance of systems, project management<br />

<strong>and</strong> the provision of technical advice <strong>and</strong> support.<br />

Diploma (Network Engineering): provides the skills<br />

needed to work in network engineering <strong>and</strong><br />

management. It provides training in a range of<br />

relevant skills for the selection, installation, use,<br />

programming <strong>and</strong> networking of microcomputers,<br />

<strong>and</strong> for client support generally.<br />

Certificate IV (Programming): provides skills in<br />

computer programming <strong>and</strong> systems analysis <strong>and</strong><br />

design. It covers operating systems in some detail,<br />

<strong>and</strong> programming in different languages. In<br />

addition, it provides a sound introduction to project<br />

management, designing IT solutions for business<br />

requirements <strong>and</strong> client interaction.<br />

Certificate IV (Systems Analysis <strong>and</strong> Design):<br />
