complete additional bridging subjects. Mature age,<br />
non-VCE applicants will be considered on individual<br />
applications <strong>and</strong> an interview if necessary.<br />

This course is specifically designed to provide<br />
students with the skills needed for a wide range of<br />
positions in technology based industries including<br />
data acquisition <strong>and</strong> control, network <strong>and</strong> systems<br />
management, programming <strong>and</strong> multimedia.<br />

Advanced Diploma: graphical user interface design,<br />
web page design, multimedia authoring, CD<br />
presentation, object oriented programmer in Java,<br />
C++, visual basic, data acquisition <strong>and</strong> sensor<br />

Diploma: design <strong>and</strong> implementation of<br />
software/hardware, installation <strong>and</strong> maintenance of<br />
local area networks, technical support to Web<br />
design, application of 3D design.<br />
Certificate IV: assistants to practitioners, technical<br />

<strong>Course</strong> overview<br />
This course is designed to provide a sound<br />
background <strong>and</strong> application of hardware <strong>and</strong><br />
software components of modern computing<br />
systems including network techniques.<br />
Advanced Diploma: contains components enabling<br />
students to gain advanced levels of operation in<br />
one of the three streams: Multimedia,<br />
Instrumentation, Software Development (or a<br />
combination if desired). The multimedia stream<br />
offers additional fundamental principles of 3D<br />
animation, modelling, sound <strong>and</strong> image editing <strong>and</strong><br />
CD authoring techniques. The instrumentation<br />
stream has an emphasis on applied science <strong>and</strong><br />
information retrieval <strong>and</strong> analysis in a physical<br />
laboratory environment. The software development<br />
stream offers extensive business application<br />
development, networking <strong>and</strong> object oriented<br />
programming.<br />
Diploma: the emphasis of the Diploma is to provide<br />
the student with advanced skills relating to current<br />
industry st<strong>and</strong>ards. Major studies include:<br />
Programming in Pascal <strong>and</strong> C++, Introduction to<br />
Networking, Principles of Multimedia Design <strong>and</strong><br />
Animation.<br />
Certificate IV: contains the introductory areas of<br />
computer science studies providing students with<br />
the fundamental skills required by the industry.<br />
Major studies include: information technology with<br />
animation, WWW design, hardware systems design,<br />
elementary maths, electronics <strong>and</strong> physics.<br />
Career opportunities<br />
Diploma: technical officer or senior computer<br />
technician, computer network technician, training<br />
instructor, <strong>and</strong> technical support.<br />
Certificate IV: technician or service personnel who<br />
perform maintenance, diagnosis, repair customer<br />
liaison, <strong>and</strong> directs technical assistants.<br />
Certificate II: technical assistant who performs<br />
assembly, installation <strong>and</strong> tests tasks under<br />
direction.<br />
Professional recognition<br />
Graduates of the Diploma are eligible for Associate<br />
membership of the Institution of Engineers,<br />
