As a theatre student you will choose either acting or
stagecraft. If acting is your choice, you’ll explore the
many techniques of performance and take to the
stage under the guidance of our experienced faculty.
If you would rather work “behind the scenes”, the
stagecraft specialization will teach you the specific
skills of carpentry, props and wardrobe, stage
management and more. All your hard work will
culminate in a full-scale production.
Your home away from home will be the Fine Arts
Building, where you will perfect your craft in a 200-
seat theatre – a laboratory for actors, technicians,
designers, directors and audiences. When you reach
your fourth year, you will spend part of a semester
studying, training and working on a production at
Memorial University’s campus in Harlow, England.
ADMISSION
AUDITION:
Enrolment in the theatre
program is limited and the
selection is competitive. Submit
your theatre application by March 31, in addition
to your general university admissions application.
Depending on the specialization you choose,
you will be required to either audition (acting)
or attend an interview (stagecraft).

Rick Simm credits his successes across Canada and into the United States
to the instruction he received from Grenfell's bachelor of fine arts in theatre.
"I learned from working professionals," said the 2006 graduate. "Our
production classes operated like a professional theatre, and when I
graduated, I felt more than equipped to compete for employment with
actors across Canada. I'd recommend this program to anyone." For the
past two years Rick has toured Atlantic Canada and Ontario twice, and
has embarked on a stage production headed for L.A. Titled "CSI Live,"
the stage play will feature Rick in the lead male role.
