RIVER
RESEARCH:
The Humber River Basin Project
(HRBP) is one of the largest
research initiatives ongoing at
Grenfell. HRBP is a collection of many research
projects that focus on the Humber River basin. It is a
comprehensive, integrated approach to ecological
assessment and long-term monitoring. The basin is an
important asset of western Newfoundland and serves
as a platform from which to develop knowledge and
generate models for addressing critical issues
surrounding resource management and sustainability.
Erica Noseworthy chose Grenfell’s sustainable resource management program
because she wanted to learn more about observing, respecting and managing
the earth and its resources. “The instruction I’ve received was incredible,” said
Erica, who hails from Corner Brook. “My professors greatly enhanced my ability
to apply resource management techniques to everyday life.” She added that
Grenfell’s small class sizes allow students to get to know their professors and
to pursue courses that are active and engaging. “Thanks to Grenfell’s
proactive faculty and its bachelor of resource management degree, I
have had opportunities to work in the field, observing resource-based
industries in the Corner Brook area.”
