The beauty of the general science degree is your
ability to learn about several different subject areas,
as opposed to focusing on just one. As a student in
the general science degree program, you will
complete a minimum of eight courses in three of
the following five disciplines: biology, chemistry,
earth systems, mathematics and physics. Any
combination will allow you to accumulate courses
in at least three teachable science areas. So rather
than the usual major and minor, you will, in essence,
be taking subjects in areas that are equivalent to a
triple minor.
A general or honours option is available.
THE NIGHT
SKY:
You’ll be able to see the stars
more clearly after a state-of-the-art
astronomical telescope is installed
in Grenfell’s new Arts and Science Academic
Extension. The telescope, which rings in at
almost half a million dollars, will have the
largest lens in Atlantic Canada.
Grenfell's general science degree gave Jason Lanza the experience he
needed to become a science teacher. "I want to teach specifically the areas
of mathematics and physics," said Jason, who hails from Corozal Town,
Belize. "All the professors who taught me the sciences of mathematics,
physics, chemistry, earth science and environmental science have truly
stimulated my interest to pursue further studies at a graduate level. They
have challenged and guided me to discover my true potential and my true
interest in the fields of science. Because of them, I am even more eager to
become a teacher. I want to be like them.” Jason was the winner of the 2009
University Medal Academic Excellence in General Science.
