Young Writers’ Workshop
(Entering Grades K - 1)
Introduces children to basic writing skills ranging from initial letters sound to using descriptive language with an
interactive dialogue journal, and fosters a love of reading through experimental, hands-on, fun-filled activities.
(Entering Grades 2 - 8)
Based on the California State Content Standards, our workshops offer students a
unique opportunity to develop their talent as writers. Experienced teachers guide
students through a step- by-step approach to writing: prewriting, planning, writing,
sharing, revising, editing and evaluating. Students will:
* write descriptive, narrative and expository papers;
* practice the six traits of writing: ideas, organization, voice, word choice,
sentence fluency and writing conventions;
* share their writing within a supportive circle of friends;
* learn to revise, edit and publish their work;
* write with command of standard English language conventions.
“Great Program!
The teachers had
an excellent
curriculum for a 3
week course.”
In the writing workshops, students may read short, high quality literature to help them generate writing
ideas. Students may also use music, drama, art, dance, problem solving exercises and social interaction to
transform ideas into words.
