P R O D U C T N E W S Grob Systems has developed a small rotary table for its G-350 fiveaxis machine, so it is now capable of producing precise, thin, cylindrical workpieces. The machine upgrade targets tool manufacturers that make boring bars with complex insert seats and turbine manufacturers making blades. The five-axis machine’s two rotating axes work for both primary industries; although, blade machining requires a high level of dynamics because of abrupt reversing points at the blade transition from one 3-D surface to another. clamped at the ends, which need the entire surface machined. “Longer tools with a greater projection would be necessary and the risk of collision would be increased,” Ruelle says. “For this reason, we developed the small table, put it into testing and discovered its usefulness for more than just machining cutting tools and turbine blades.
