S<strong>in</strong>ter distortion cannot be tolerated<br />

due to required component flatness.<br />

Specially eng<strong>in</strong>eered s<strong>in</strong>ter fixtur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

assists <strong>in</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>g this flatness, typically<br />

with<strong>in</strong> 0.075 mm.<br />

The material is an FC0205 with<br />

density <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> rack, flange and U slot<br />

region at 6.8 g/cm 3 . The sectional<br />

density is kept equal with<strong>in</strong> 0.08 g/<br />

cm 3 . This part has a m<strong>in</strong>imum yield<br />

strength of 43,000 psi and typical tensile<br />

strength of 55,000 tsi, with a hardness<br />

of HRB 65.<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustrial wash<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e application,”<br />

Slattery says. “This rack along<br />

with <strong>the</strong> mat<strong>in</strong>g gear is what agitates<br />

<strong>the</strong> drum <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se mach<strong>in</strong>es. The die<br />

cast alternative to this PM system is<br />

far more expensive due to <strong>the</strong> extensive<br />

mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g required.”<br />
