The VL 2 P is an <strong>in</strong>novative vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

production center, equipped with two<br />

sp<strong>in</strong>dles and pendulum technology to <strong>in</strong>crease<br />

precision and efficiency, for workpieces<br />

that have a diameter of up to 100 mm.<br />

The focus dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> design of <strong>the</strong> VL 2 P was<br />

to make <strong>the</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e extremely efficient by<br />

elim<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g idle times. With this technology,<br />

non-productive times due to load<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

unload<strong>in</strong>g have been completely elim<strong>in</strong>ated.<br />

The mach<strong>in</strong>e is suitable for workpieces with<br />

short mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g times s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> ratio of<br />

mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g time to idle time is vital for <strong>the</strong><br />

economy of <strong>the</strong> process.<br />

The VL 2 P represents a comprehensive solution<br />

to vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g. This vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

mach<strong>in</strong>e offers complete mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

two setups (us<strong>in</strong>g a variety of technologies,<br />

such as vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g, mill<strong>in</strong>g, drill<strong>in</strong>g).The<br />

mach<strong>in</strong>e is equipped with two work sp<strong>in</strong>dles<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> pendulum mode, i.e. whilst <strong>the</strong><br />

first sp<strong>in</strong>dle holds <strong>the</strong> workpiece dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g process, <strong>the</strong> second sp<strong>in</strong>dle utilizes<br />

<strong>the</strong> pick-up method to automatically<br />

load itself with raw parts. This ensures that<br />

<strong>the</strong> follow-on raw part is always ready for<br />

vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g (mach<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g). After completion<br />

of <strong>the</strong> vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g operation on <strong>the</strong><br />

first component <strong>the</strong> turret sw<strong>in</strong>gs (like a pendulum)<br />

to <strong>the</strong> second worksp<strong>in</strong>dle. On <strong>the</strong> VL<br />

2 P, <strong>the</strong> work sp<strong>in</strong>dles are mounted to <strong>the</strong> left<br />

and right of <strong>the</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e base and carry out<br />

<strong>the</strong> movement <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Z axis. The turret is located<br />

at <strong>the</strong> front and moves <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> X axis.<br />

The focus of <strong>the</strong> VL 2 P design has been on<br />

reduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> idle times <strong>in</strong> vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Unproductive times for load<strong>in</strong>g and unload<strong>in</strong>g<br />

work are almost totally elim<strong>in</strong>ated. The<br />

vertical turn<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e is particularly suit-<br />
