Long Term Storage “Winterization” Checklist
When storing an engine for a prolonged period of time (2 months or longer), several important procedures should be performed to
prevent engine issues. This information is contained in the Owner’s Manual and is summarized here as a check list to review with your
Yamaha dealer.
Depending on your location your local authorized Yamaha dealer may have additional procedures for long term storage. Consult your
owners manual and local Yamaha authorized dealer for a complete checklist. If you need to find a dealer, visit the dealer locator on
FUEL TANK
Prior to the last operation of the engine before storage, place
the appropriate amount of Ring Free Plus and Yamaha Fuel
Conditioner and Stabilizer Plus in the fuel per the instructions
on the containers. Ring Free Plus will help keep the fuel system
clean, and the stabilizer will help prevent the fuel from
breaking down during storage. Run the engine for a sufficient
amount of time to ensure the stabilized fuel courses
completely through the entire fuel system. NOTE: For best
protection, Yamaha’s Ring Free Plus and Fuel Conditioner and
Stabilizer Plus should be used on a continuous basis. Instructions
are on the labels.
Depending on length of time the unit will be in storage and fuel quality in your area, there are two options for fuel storage:
1. Fill the tank 7/8 full with fuel then add proper amounts of Ring Free Plus and Yamaha Fuel Conditioner and Stabilizer Plus and
operate the engine until treated fuel is run through the entire fuel system.
2. Drain the tank and fuel system completely, but still make sure you add Yamaha Fuel Conditioner and Stabilizer Plus to the fuel
before you do this.*
In either case, an extra precaution would be to drain the carburetors or the Vapor Separator Tank (EFI engines) after the stabilized fuel
has been circulated. For any further questions on “winterizing” contact your local authorized Yamaha Dealer or Yamaha Customer
Support at 1-866-894-1626. To find a dealer near you, visit the dealer locator at www.yamahaoutboards.com.
* Consult your Yamaha Owner’s Manual for the recommended storage procedure for your particular Yamaha outboard. Consult your local authorized Yamaha dealer for
recommendations and assistance in determining which fuel tank storage option might work best for your particular situation.
