Introduction:<br />
The New Testament includes <strong>the</strong> four Gospels, <strong>the</strong> Acts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Apostles and <strong>the</strong> epistles. The<br />
Gospels give <strong>the</strong> events <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord‘s life in <strong>the</strong> flesh till He ascended to Heaven. The Acts <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Apostles give <strong>the</strong> events <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> early church after <strong>the</strong> Lord‘s ascension and <strong>the</strong> pouring <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit on <strong>the</strong> believers.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> Gospels, <strong>the</strong> Lord is in <strong>the</strong> flesh and in <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Acts <strong>the</strong> Lord is in <strong>the</strong> people. In<br />
<strong>the</strong> Gospels, we see Christ and in <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Acts we see Christianity. That is why it is called<br />
<strong>the</strong> Acts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit or <strong>the</strong> Gospel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit.<br />
Lesson Outline:<br />
I. The Book and <strong>the</strong> Writer<br />
This book gives us <strong>the</strong> image <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> early church from all its different aspects. We see how<br />
Jerusalem was, <strong>the</strong> circumstances it faced and <strong>the</strong> spread <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church in different countries<br />
as well as <strong>the</strong> types <strong>of</strong> success and obstacles she faced. We also see <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>the</strong><br />
Apostles and how <strong>the</strong>y behaved, served and bore witness. It is <strong>the</strong> model and <strong>the</strong> history, <strong>the</strong><br />
measure and <strong>the</strong> image <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> life flowing from <strong>the</strong> spring <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit, who poured on<br />
<strong>the</strong> apostles on <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> Pentecost. By His power <strong>the</strong>y traveled around <strong>the</strong> world preaching<br />
<strong>the</strong> Gospel, and although <strong>the</strong> world severely resisted <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y won victory over <strong>the</strong> world<br />
with <strong>the</strong> help <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spirit that abode in <strong>the</strong>m.<br />
The writer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> book is St. Luke who wrote it after writing his Gospel. His purpose is to<br />
complete <strong>the</strong> story he started in his gospel as he said when he began his gospel: ―In as much<br />
as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative <strong>of</strong> those things which are most surely<br />
believed among us‖ (Luke 1:1-4). Similarly, he began <strong>the</strong> Acts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Apostles by saying,<br />
―The former account I made, O Theophilus, <strong>of</strong> all that Jesus began both to do and teach until<br />
<strong>the</strong> day in which He was taken up, after He through <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit had given commandments<br />
to <strong>the</strong> apostles whom He had chosen (Acts 1:1-2) by former he refers to his gospel.<br />
One person <strong>the</strong>n wrote <strong>the</strong> two books, St. Luke, to a man named Theophilus and <strong>the</strong> second<br />
book complete <strong>the</strong> story that began in <strong>the</strong> first book. The early church confirmed this.<br />
