V. Katameros (Book <strong>of</strong> Church Readings)<br />

All <strong>the</strong> readings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day have one single <strong>the</strong>me in common.<br />

Five Different Katameros.<br />

Annual for Sundays: Readings depend on <strong>the</strong> Sundays <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Coptic</strong> Months (e.g. first<br />

Sunday <strong>of</strong> Tute).<br />

Annual for Weekdays: Readings depend on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Coptic</strong> date (e.g. <strong>the</strong> 1 st day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month <strong>of</strong><br />

Tute). The <strong>the</strong>me for <strong>the</strong>se readings depends on <strong>the</strong> Synaxarium <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day (e.g., if it is a feast<br />

<strong>of</strong> a Patriarch, <strong>the</strong> Gospel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Good Shepherd is read).<br />

Great Fast: Contains <strong>the</strong> readings <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> days <strong>of</strong> Great Fast and Jonah‘s Fast.<br />

Holy Week: Contains all <strong>the</strong> readings <strong>of</strong> Holy Week.<br />

Holy Fifty Days: Contains <strong>the</strong> readings <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> Holy Fifty Days from <strong>the</strong> Feast <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Resurrection to <strong>the</strong> Feast <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pentecost.<br />

The Chronology and History <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Church and its saints<br />

VII. Book <strong>of</strong> Melodies<br />

Contains <strong>the</strong> Melodies chanted during Communion<br />

VIII. Psalmody (Book <strong>of</strong> Praises)<br />

Two Different Psalmodies<br />

Annual Psalmody: Contains <strong>the</strong> praises for all <strong>the</strong> days <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> week and all <strong>the</strong> occasions,<br />

except <strong>the</strong> month <strong>of</strong> Kiahk.<br />

Kiahk Psalmody: Contains all <strong>the</strong> praises for <strong>the</strong> special month <strong>of</strong> Kiahk.<br />

IX. Antiphonarium (called “Difnar” in <strong>Coptic</strong>)<br />

Contains a glorification and a brief story <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> saint <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day.<br />

It is used in <strong>the</strong> Midnight Praises.<br />

X. Book <strong>of</strong> Psalies<br />

Contains special Psalies for special feasts and <strong>the</strong> feasts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> saints, not found in <strong>the</strong> annual<br />

Psalmody.<br />

XI. Book <strong>of</strong> Processions<br />

Book <strong>of</strong> Processions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> feasts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cross and Palm Sunday, and <strong>the</strong> expositions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Great Fast and <strong>the</strong> Holy Fifty Days.<br />

Contains all <strong>the</strong> expositions and Psalies for all <strong>the</strong>se occasions.<br />

XII. Holy Week Directory<br />

Contains all <strong>the</strong> hymns rites, and readings for <strong>the</strong> Holy Week: starting from Palm Sunday until<br />

<strong>the</strong> Feast <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Resurrection.<br />
