allow foreigners to be ordained monks in his monasteries.<br />

His Death<br />

He visited one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> saints called Thomas who told him that he would himself depart to<br />

Heaven after a few days and St. Shenouda would depart after him, Thomas gave him a sign<br />

which was that <strong>the</strong> stone in front <strong>of</strong> his cavern would split in two.<br />

Three months later Anba Shenouda was sick. He ga<strong>the</strong>red all his sons and advised <strong>the</strong>m to<br />

struggle to <strong>the</strong> last breath. His face lit like <strong>the</strong> sun and he prayed continuously <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> Lord<br />

Jesus Himself came to streng<strong>the</strong>n and comfort him in his sickness. St. Anthony, St.<br />

Pachomius and St. Bishoy also visited him. At last he knelt down to worship <strong>the</strong> Lord and<br />

crossed himself with <strong>the</strong> sign <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cross and he brea<strong>the</strong>d his last on <strong>the</strong> 7 th <strong>of</strong> Abib, AD 451<br />

and he was about 120 years old. May <strong>the</strong> blessings <strong>of</strong> his prayers be with us, Amen.<br />

Conclusion:<br />

St. Shenouda contributed great contributions to <strong>the</strong> monastic life and <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church.<br />

His life was full <strong>of</strong> spiritually productive works. His example is a great example to all <strong>of</strong> us.<br />
