Introduction:<br />

Review <strong>the</strong> previous lesson and verse.<br />

Set <strong>the</strong> scene by asking <strong>the</strong> children about what <strong>the</strong>y know about <strong>the</strong> wedding parties and<br />

<strong>the</strong> attitude <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> virgins.<br />

Lesson Outlines:<br />

Jesus told <strong>the</strong>m many things in parables. Why? He told <strong>the</strong> people a story about ten virgins<br />

who were invited to a wedding party. They took <strong>the</strong>ir lamps and went to meet <strong>the</strong> bridegroom but<br />

five <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m went in with Him to <strong>the</strong> marriage feast and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r five were rejected. Five <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m were wise and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r five were foolish. When <strong>the</strong> foolish took <strong>the</strong>ir lamps <strong>the</strong>y took no<br />

oil with <strong>the</strong>m; but <strong>the</strong> wise took flasks <strong>of</strong> oil with <strong>the</strong>ir lamps. As <strong>the</strong> bridegroom was delayed,<br />

<strong>the</strong>y all slumbered. But at midnight <strong>the</strong>re was a cry, ―Behold, <strong>the</strong> bridegroom! Come out to meet<br />

Him‖.<br />

Why were five <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m called wise and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs called foolish?<br />

What did all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m do when <strong>the</strong> bridegroom was delayed?<br />

What was <strong>the</strong> cry heard at midnight?<br />

Then all those virgins rose and trimmed <strong>the</strong>ir lamps. And <strong>the</strong> foolish said to <strong>the</strong> wise, ―Give<br />

us some <strong>of</strong> your oil, for our lamps are going out‖. But <strong>the</strong> wise replied, ―Perhaps <strong>the</strong>re will not be<br />

enough for us and you; go ra<strong>the</strong>r to <strong>the</strong> dealers and buy for yourselves‖. And while <strong>the</strong>y went to<br />

buy, <strong>the</strong> bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with Him to <strong>the</strong> marriage feast; and<br />

<strong>the</strong> door was shut. Afterwards <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r virgins came also, saying, ―Lord, Lord, open to us‖. But<br />

He replied, ―Truly, I say to you, I do not know you‖. Then Jesus said to <strong>the</strong> people, ―Watch<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore, for you know nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> day nor <strong>the</strong> hour‖. After telling <strong>the</strong> story in an interesting<br />

attractive way, let <strong>the</strong> children deduce <strong>the</strong> symbols <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> story through <strong>the</strong> questions:<br />

Who are <strong>the</strong> wise m virgins (Those who are ready)?<br />
