Introduction:<br />

Sing <strong>the</strong> following hymn: O righteous people come...Let us go to <strong>the</strong> heavenly Jerusalem.<br />

Review <strong>the</strong> previous lesson and verse.<br />

Prepare <strong>the</strong> following visual aid: The pictures <strong>of</strong> John <strong>the</strong> Baptist carrying his head on a<br />

plate.<br />

Lesson Outlines:<br />

Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous people. They lived good lives in God‘s sight. They<br />

prayed to <strong>the</strong> Lord that He might give <strong>the</strong>m a son. They were very old. Zechariah was a priest<br />

(talk about his clo<strong>the</strong>s, his work, <strong>the</strong> rituals in <strong>the</strong> temple, hymns, psalms, sacrifices, prayers,<br />

confession <strong>of</strong> sins). He always prayed. One day he was doing his work as a priest in <strong>the</strong> Temple.<br />

An angel <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord appeared to him standing on <strong>the</strong> right side <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> altar (Describe <strong>the</strong> angel<br />

and <strong>the</strong> surprise). They spoke toge<strong>the</strong>r (Lively conversation from <strong>the</strong> Bible). The crowds <strong>of</strong><br />

people were outside praying and <strong>the</strong>y were surprised to see him taking a long time. They kept<br />

silent and looked to one ano<strong>the</strong>r and wondered ―Why is he late? Is he dead? Later, he came out<br />

and <strong>the</strong>y asked him... He made signs to <strong>the</strong>m with his hands. He had seen a vision. They all<br />

waited to see <strong>the</strong> meaning <strong>of</strong> that vision and <strong>the</strong> mystery <strong>of</strong> that wonderful expected baby<br />

(Questions).<br />

Days passed... Old Elizabeth gave birth to a baby boy. All <strong>the</strong> people were surprised...<strong>the</strong>y<br />

were happy... The neighbors came to congratulate her. What will his name be? They asked his<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r and she said, ―John‖. They refused that name, as it did not appeal to <strong>the</strong>m. They asked<br />

Zechariah He wrote ―John‖. They were amazed. He spoke again. Their joy became double.<br />

Zechariah spoke about <strong>the</strong> child. He is an angel sent by <strong>the</strong> Lord, before sending His Only<br />

Begotten Son Jesus Christ, to pave <strong>the</strong> way for Him... happiness... joy...repentance. The boy<br />
