What is <strong>the</strong> apostolic era?<br />

Lesson Outlines:<br />

After <strong>the</strong> resurrection Christ established <strong>the</strong> sacraments <strong>of</strong> priesthood as it is written:<br />

―And Jesus came and spoke to <strong>the</strong>m, saying: All authority has been given to Me in<br />

heaven and on earth. Go <strong>the</strong>refore and make disciples <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> nations, baptizing <strong>the</strong>m in<br />

<strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Son and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Spirit, teaching <strong>the</strong>m to observe all<br />

things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

age. Amen‖ (Mat<strong>the</strong>w 28:18-20)<br />

―And when He had said this, He brea<strong>the</strong>d on <strong>the</strong>m, and said to <strong>the</strong>m; receive <strong>the</strong> Holy<br />

Spirit. If you forgive <strong>the</strong> sins <strong>of</strong> any, <strong>the</strong>y are forgiven <strong>the</strong>m; if you retain <strong>the</strong> sins <strong>of</strong> any,<br />

<strong>the</strong>y are retained‖ (John 20:22-23, Mat<strong>the</strong>w 18:18).<br />

The church started to grow and was characterized by <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

1. Unified church<br />

From day one <strong>the</strong> church learned to be toge<strong>the</strong>r. We see <strong>the</strong> abidance in <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Acts:<br />

―These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with <strong>the</strong> women, and<br />

Mary <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Jesus and with his brethren‖ (Acts 1:14).<br />

―And when <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> Pentecost had fully come, <strong>the</strong>y were all with one accord in one<br />

place‖ (Acts 2:1).<br />

―And <strong>the</strong>y, continuing daily with one accord in <strong>the</strong> temple, and breaking bread from<br />

house to house, did eat <strong>the</strong>ir meat with gladness and singleness <strong>of</strong> heart‖ (Acts 2:46).<br />

―It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you<br />

with our beloved Barnabas and Paul‖ (Acts 15:25)<br />
