The Institute <strong>for</strong> Urb<strong>an</strong> Development CENCA<br />
is pleased to present this document, with<br />
the objectives to contribute to <strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g a<br />
knowledge base <strong>of</strong> new work be<strong>in</strong>g done <strong>in</strong><br />
relation the theme <strong>of</strong> Ecological S<strong>an</strong>itation<br />
<strong>in</strong> Peru <strong>an</strong>d thus facilitate the replication <strong>of</strong><br />
these new experiences. This collective work<br />
conta<strong>in</strong>s a product that that is somewhat a<br />
new practice <strong>in</strong> our country.<br />
Equally as with our previous publications:<br />
“Innovative <strong>an</strong>d susta<strong>in</strong>able proposals <strong>for</strong><br />
the disposal, treatment, <strong>an</strong>d reuse <strong>of</strong> solid<br />
waste <strong>an</strong>d domestic liquids” 2002, <strong>an</strong>d<br />
“Ecological S<strong>an</strong>itation: Lessons learned <strong>in</strong> the<br />
suburb<strong>an</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> Lima” 2006; we <strong>in</strong>tend to<br />
provide evidence <strong>for</strong> new <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>of</strong> practic<strong>in</strong>g<br />
susta<strong>in</strong>able s<strong>an</strong>itation that today, more th<strong>an</strong><br />
ever, plague the pl<strong>an</strong>et <strong>an</strong>d those who live <strong>in</strong><br />
rural or urb<strong>an</strong> environments <strong>an</strong>d require as a<br />
paradigm <strong>of</strong> mitigation <strong>an</strong>d adaption to the<br />
effects <strong>of</strong> climate ch<strong>an</strong>ge.<br />
CENCA, <strong>in</strong> this document, reaffirms its<br />
commitment <strong>for</strong> a dignified <strong>an</strong>d possible<br />
world, the same that we sought when we<br />
<strong>for</strong>med ourselves 29 years ago <strong>an</strong>d beg<strong>an</strong><br />
the pioneer<strong>in</strong>g implementation <strong>of</strong> Ecological<br />
S<strong>an</strong>itation <strong>in</strong> 1997.
