Technology & the courts 2008 survey<br />

Every two years the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong>’s Information<br />

Technology staff surveys <strong>Ohio</strong> courts to learn about the<br />

technology used throughout <strong>Ohio</strong>, as well as how the<br />

<strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> can help courts improve their technology.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Technology & the <strong>Court</strong>s 2008 Survey showed that<br />

courts found several <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> services to be <strong>of</strong><br />

value to the trial and appellate courts in their use and<br />

management <strong>of</strong> technology.<br />

For example, consultation services, especially in the areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> disaster recovery planning, case management system<br />

upgrades and document imaging systems, were noted most<br />

<strong>of</strong>ten as valuable resources <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong>.<br />

Other <strong>Court</strong> services noted to be valuable to <strong>Ohio</strong> courts<br />

included:<br />

• Sharing <strong>of</strong> standards and guidelines<br />

• Development <strong>of</strong> OCN<br />

• Education and advice on technology<br />

• Information on vendors and s<strong>of</strong>tware used by<br />

<strong>Ohio</strong> courts<br />

• Facilitation <strong>of</strong> networking and collaboration<br />

with other courts<br />

• Training<br />

• <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Web site<br />

• Appellate Case Management System.<br />

Information for the 2008 survey was based on responses<br />

received from <strong>Ohio</strong>’s 372 trial-level courts, the 12 district<br />

courts <strong>of</strong> appeals and the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong>. Complete survey<br />
