2008 CASE STATISTICS sUMMARY OF aCTIVITY In 2008, Supreme Court of Ohio case filings increased by 2 percent from 2007. The total number of cases filed in 2008 was 2,506, compared with 2,459 in 2007. In three of the last five years, case filings increased an average of 2 percent. Case dispositions increased by 6 percent in 2008, 2,542 versus 2,384 in 2007. The increase in disposed cases reduced the cases pending on Dec. 31, 2008, to 892 cases; the Court had 928 cases pending at the end of 2007. These numbers translate to a 101 percent case-clearance rate in 2008, versus 97 percent in 2007. The most recent year in which the Court had a pro se caseload of 37 percent was 2006, when 885 pro se cases were filed. In 2008, 919 cases were filed by pro se litigants.
