European Union - The European Commission has published<br />

several papers on An energy policy For Europe, there is one in<br />

particular on buildings. (The papers published by the Commission<br />

are available in all EU member country languages.)<br />

Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction (www.holcimfoundation.org/)<br />

is a private foundation promoting innovative<br />

approaches to sustainable construction mainly through<br />

Awards competitions, where sustainability criteria are applied,<br />

and an international Forum. The objective of the foundation<br />

is to encourage sustainable responses to the technological,<br />

environmental, socio-economic and cultural issues affecting<br />

building and construction, regionally as well as globally.<br />

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is an organization<br />

and network of about 500 cities worldwide. It offers guidance<br />

and cooperation initiatives at the local level. Cities are joining<br />

forces and developing strategies and action to fight climate<br />

change. Two ICLEI programmes in particular target energy<br />

efficiency from two different perspectives. CCP – Cities for<br />

Climate Protection (www.iclei.org/ccp) looks at various energy<br />

efficiency measures that cities can take, and Sustainable<br />

Procurement (www.iclei.org/procurement) with its city network<br />

BiG-NET develops tools and mechanisms for public purchasing.<br />

REEEP – The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership<br />

(www.reeep.org/) is a global public-private partnership<br />

that structures policy and regulatory initiatives for clean<br />

energy, and facilitates financing for energy projects. Backed<br />

by more than 200 national governments, businesses, development<br />

banks and NGOs, REEEP contributes to policy<br />

dialogues. Its aim is to accelerate the integration of renewables<br />

into the energy mix and to advocate energy efficiency<br />

as a path to improved energy security and reduced carbon<br />

emissions, ensuring socio-economic benefits. You can register<br />

free or charge and become an Associate Member.<br />
