Bhutanese-Nepali refugees from Utica shared traditional<br />

songs and dances for <strong>SUNY</strong>IT and Utica community<br />

members at a World Music event on<br />

campus on November 30, 2012.<br />

Refugee student Pawser Soe from MVCC tells a story<br />

about moving to the U.S. from Thailand. Students, faculty,<br />

and community members shared stories on the theme <strong>of</strong><br />

“Starting Over” in Kunsela Lecture Hall as part <strong>of</strong> a Utica<br />

Firefly event on November 30, 2012.<br />

Above and below: On September 15, 2012, the project-sponsored Asian Folk<br />

Hour at the Utica Music and Arts festival gave refugee community members an<br />

opportunity to share their traditional music and dance.<br />

The project teamed up with the Utica Firefly Storytelling Series to<br />

produce the Starting Over film (available at www.startingoverutica.com)<br />

about the Bhutanese-Nepali refugee community. Above: Bhutanese-<br />
