LOCALITY FACTS
Yandina Markets
Yandina - Yandina Creek & District is a rural area which includes the
township of Yandina, and the localities of Kulangoor, Maroochy River,
Ninderry, Valdora, and Yandina Creek. To the east is Arcoona Road,
Coolum Creek and the mouth of the Maroochy River. South of the locality
is Bli Bli, while Verrierdale lies to the north, and Kiamba to the west.
Yandina is named from Aboriginal words meaning “to go on foot”.
Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Traditional Owners of this land
and their rich cultural heritage. For more information on the Indigenous
history of this area, visit .
European settlement of the area dates from 1853, with land used mainly
for cattle grazing and timber-getting. The township of Yandina was
established in 1870, with the area growing gradually with the opening of
the railway line in 1891. Significant residential development did not occur
until the 1960s. Rural land is used mainly for farming, particularly ginger
and sugar cane growing.
precious fauna, from birds to lizards to
kangaroos”. People also choose to live
here for the availability of affordable
housing and strong sense of community.
“I like how everyone in the neighbourhood
knows everyone’s name and says ‘hi’
when they walk or drive past”. Locals
love having convenient access to larger
