Dapper Dan Awards
STVM Students and Alumni Recognized
The Dapper Dan Club of Akron held their annual banquet
on February 17, 2008 to recognize outstanding achievements
by local sports figures. The banquet proceeds are donated to
area youth sports organizations to increase opportunities for
young people to participate in athletics.
Ten special recognition awards were presented and the
St. Vincent-St. Mary students and alumni that were
recognized included Kara Murphy VM07 and Nick Thomas
VM08.
STVM Fighting Irish Football Coach Dan Boarman V70
and Steve Marks (Shamrock Society Member), founder of
the Road Runner Akron Marathon, also received awards for
their service to area athletics.

V65 and Pat Frattura
DeJacimo V65 have
collaborated to publish a
children’s story book entitled
“A Very Special Christmas
Delivery.” Rich, the author,
is a Walsh Jesuit High School
English teacher and a
freelance writer. He lives in
Stow with his wife,
Maribeth, and their children
Joe and Mary Theresa. Pat,
the illustrator, currently
lives in Green with her
husband Mike and their
children Lisa and David.

Fr. Ignatius Joseph Kury
VM94 was ordained on
December 23, 2006 at
St. Josaphat Ukrainian
Catholic Cathedral and
currently serves as the Pastor
of Holy Ghost Ukrainian
Catholic Church on Brown
Street in Akron, Ohio. Father
Ignatius attended John
Carroll University and
earned a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Political Science
and is also a 1998 graduate
from Borromeo Seminary in
Wickliffe, Ohio. In addition,
Father Ignatius completed
his theological studies and
graduated with a
Baccalaureate Degree in
Sacred Theology (STB) from
the Catholic University of
America, School of Theology
and Religious Studies in
Washington, D.C.
Brenda Justice VM80
Brenda Justice VM80
celebrated a musical concert
“Power of a Dream” at the
Akron Summit County
Public Library on
August 4, 2008. Brenda
provided her audience with
a wide variety of music,
which included gospel
music, jazz, classical and
rhythm and blues. This
fundraising concert was
established to raise money to
assist the Akron Symphony
Chorus and Gospel Meets
Symphony Choir in
purchasing performance
risers. The Brenda Justice &
Friends Concert event raised
$2000 toward the cost of the
chorus risers.
Brenda has worked with
the Akron Symphony for
over 8 years and is the
administrative assistant and
the coordinator of choral
programs.
