Ski Club Off to Great Start Joanne Zaratsian, Ski Club Advisor reports…. The newly establish STVM Ski Club is off to a great start! On Wednesday, January 23rd, we boarded the bus with 40 people for the first ski club run. All students received lessons and many were taking to the slopes for the very first time. As the night progressed, many students decided to head for the bigger hills! Also, a “great job” goes to the students – they were complimented with outstanding remarks from the Boston Mills Ski Resort staff. We are so lucky to have had such an overwhelming response to this new club! The bus is full for this year’s Ski Club but if you are interested in next season – please contact Joanne Zaratsian, Ski Club Advisor jzaratsian@stvm.com or call 330- 253-9113 extension 112. We would like to have 2 buses next season (80 students) and we are tentatively planning for an overnight ski trip to New York. Keara Walsh VM07 Shares Expeience Keara Walsh VM07, studied Spanish all four years at STVM. She recently visited with the STVM students taking Spanish to talk about her summer in Costa Rica. Keara prepared for her trip through Amigos de Las Americas organization during her senior year, attending weekly meetings for training during the 2006-2007 school year. She spent most of her summer working with children in an impoverished town where she lived with a local family. While in Costa Rica she helped to plan activities to develop leadership with the local youth and accomplished this in Spanish only! She shared many of her experiences both good and bad but reflected nostalgically on the bond that formed between her and her host family whom she wishes to visit again some day. Keara also distributed children's Spanish books like “Dora the Explorer” to the school in her community that were donated by students in the STVM Spanish classes last year. Books for the Bahamas The STVM National Honor Society sponsored its second annual “Books for the Bahamas” Project. The final tally for the "Books for the Bahamas" drive has been calculated. This year students and staff donated a total of 1184 books. These books were sent to Andros Island in the Bahamas to help stock elementary school libraries.
