Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night
It was a night to remember on Saturday,
May 21, 2011, as juniors and seniors arrived
at the Akron Art Museum for this year’s prom.
Because the prom was held at an art museum,
“Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night” was the
perfect theme. The colors of the night were blue,
green, and yellow.
The Prom Committee, consisting of members
of the junior class, worked hard to make this the
best prom yet. The junior class officers who were
in charge of planning this year’s prom include
Sasha Kovalchick, Austin Manna, Alex Pianalto,
and Tessa Weigand with advisor Miss Angela
Sanor.
The night began at 7:00 p.m. when guests,
clad in tuxedos and formal dresses, arrived at the
dance. Dinner, consisting of chicken, pasta and
vegetables was served. Music provided by Beach
Boyz Entertainment brought everyone to the
floor for a fun night of dancing.
Students gathered in the middle of the dance
floor for the most anticipated moment of the
night: the crowning of Prom King and Queen.
Rice dance after their announcement as
Prom Queen and Prom King.
This year’s winners were seniors Tyler Rice and
Danielle Freeman. The duo shared the traditional
king and queen dance to the song of the night, “Drops
of Jupiter” by Train, while crowds gathered around to
congratulate them.
Following the dance, most students made their
way back to STVM for the 2011 Slamma Jamma
After Party. Provided by the Parent’s Club, Slamma
Jamma offered a DJ, video games, karoake, and
much more. Lots of prizes included gift cards,
t-shirts,and electronics. Almost every attendee left
with a small prize, like a gift card, and 13 students
received the big prizes. Aaron Carey won a fitness
machine as well as a foosball table; Lauren Falluco
won a JVC TV with a DVD player; Danielle Stokes
won an Ipod Touch with headphones and an Itunes
gift card; Maverik Timberlake and Conner Childers
both won LCD TVs; Nancy Dunbar won a Vera
Bradley bag with a free mani/pedi as well as a $150
Gamestop gift card; Scott Leonard won Cedar Point
tickets with a gas card and Quaker Steak and Lube
gift card; Nikki Almenar won an HP Notebook computer;
and Matt Perry won a signed poster of Lebron
James. Slamma Jamma was a fun and free way to
end the evening.

“Go Green” for summer
Jackson Ewing
Staff Reporter
With the school year ending, there are many notebooks, papers, and books that will not have
much use during the next three months. Instead of carelessly throwing them away, they can be
recycled. Recycling paper is one of the best ways to save trees. Another way to save trees is to save
unused notebooks and paper for the next school year, and this is not only an easy way to be less
wasteful, but this also eliminates having to buy more paper for the next school year.
A good way to save energy this summer can also be an entertaining one. Riding a bike or walking
instead of driving can save a large amount of energy and can be a fun activity to do when the
weather is nice. It is also a cheaper and more eco-friendly alternative to using cars.
The hot weather during summers prompts many people to use air conditioners, but there are
more environmentally friendly options. Fans are a much greener way to cool down and opening
windows at night is also an environmentally friendly way to cool the house. Air conditioners can
use large amounts of energy, but Energy Star qualified air conditioners use less energy than regular
air conditioners and are just as effective at controlling the temperature.
Bug spray and sunscreen choice also provides another opportunity to “go green.” When looking
for bug sprays, avoid the ingredient DEET. This and other chemicals are harmful to the environment
and can be replaced with natural ingredients such as citronella, lemongrass, and geranium oil.
Some sunscreens are also thought to affect the endocrine system in a negative way, but choosing a
sunscreen with mineral ingredients is not as harmful to both the user and the environment.
Swimming in greener pools also helps the environment. Pools that contain saline and oxygen
are evironmentally friendly alternatives to chlorine and can be an easy way to “go green.”
With the nice weather during the summer, planting grass and trees can be another easy way to
help the environment. Lower water-consuming plants are a good way to replace turf grass, and
perennial trees and plants can help as well. Planting native plants and cutting down on toxic pesticides
can lower the impact that chemicals have on the environment. Also, avoiding gas powered
lawn mowers by using electic or push mowers can cut down on gas use.
Summer vacation is a time to relax and enjoy the break. By paying attention to certain things
and cutting back, summer vacation can be both fun and environmentally friendly.
Rocket teams travel to
Virginia for nationals
Maria Arnone
Editor-in-chief
Famous scientist, singer, and songwriter
Elton John once said, “It’s just my job five days
a week, a Rocket Man, a Rocket man.” For the
students of the STVM Rocket Team, being a
rocket man (or woman) is a five day a week
job. Working hard is what helped these young
men and women make it to the National Rocket
Flying Competition.
The challenge these students faced was to
find a solution to design a rocket that would
blast off hundreds of feet in the air with an egg
attached to it, then come down without the egg
breaking. For many this would be an impossible
task, but for the Fighting Irish it was done well.
There were 100 different teams representing
34 different states. Five teams were from Ohio,
three from STVM: Team Alpha, Delta, and
Echo. Science teacher Mr. Robert Engels is the
advisor for all three teams.
Students who went to the competition were
Joanna Engels, Kaitlyn Carlier, Erica Bennett,
Aubri Farris, Katie Engels, Kate Donahue,
Madison Fererick, Gianna Hammer, Luke
Piglia, Devin Sutter, Gerry Puhalla, Logan
Wilkenson, Simon Beskitt, Taylor Seikel, Han-
nah Sims, Jack Giles, Ray Stone, Nick Codrea,
Tyler Rice, Jon Stone, Ben Nelson, Isabella
Sparhawk, Hannah Fisher, Theo Kanis, Ryan
Porcellato, Adam Porcellato, PJ Morely, Matt
Schwenning, Alex Morely, Trevor Chopko,
Max Pitman, Sloan Piglia, Ryan Loney, Adam
Kofsky, Mike Fiander, Kevin Sickels, Matt
McGovern, Stephen Hall, Noah Nicholas,
and Aaron Bennett, Miranda Mondozzi, Max
Morganti, Preston Hollopeter, Lucia Vinzani,
and Julianne Stamer.
Team Alpha finished 33rd, Delta 41st, and
Echo 42nd. The Aerospace Industries Association
and the National Association of Rocketry
sponsors the national competition. STVM
teams are sponsored by National Machine
Group, an aeronautics firm in Stow. Company
founder Peter Piglia, an alum, along with the
second generation of Piglias, supports the
program. When the teams reach the nationals,
it can cost up to $25,000 a year.
Mr. Engels started coaching when this
year’s seniors were freshmen. When he started,
the team had 13 students but now the Rocket
Team has 50 students evenly split between
boys and girls, and there is a waiting list.
Navy SEALs find Osama bin Laden
Maria Arnone
Editor-in-chief
On Sunday, May 1, 2011, at about 11 p.m., President Barrack Obama
made a speech that brought relief to the hearts of America. He announced
that the terrorist Osama Bin Laden had been killed. A group of Americans
killed him in a firefight at a compound in Pakistan.
Using certain interrogation techniques on involuntary
wartime guests, the CIA acquired the name
of a high-level al Qaeda courier, who was eventually
tracked going to and fro from said elaborate compound.
Over the years Pakistani officials have been very
helpful in the the hunt for bin Laden yet not one of
them knew in advance about the U.S. raid on the
compound, which is close to a military academy. The
U.S. assault team flew from Afghanistan into Pakistan
using holes in that country’s radar system.
Acting on President Obama’s own direction, a “small team” of Americans
consisting of 40 SEALs in four helicopters surprised the compound.
Tornadoes and floods ravage U.S.
Katy Fox
Staff Reporter
A tornado wiped out houses and killed over 122 people in Joplin, Missouri
where 50,000 people live. It was the nation’s deadliest single twister
since 1950 when they started keeping official records. While fires from
gas leaks burned, threats of hail and more tornadoes hovered above the
town. Residents were warned only 17 minutes before the 200 mile per hour
winds came roaring in. The National Weather Service said the tornado was
an EF-5, the strongest rating. It was a “multivortex” tornado with two or
more intense centers of rotation around the larger funnel. In the end about
750 were injured.
Just last month, a series of twisters hit six Southern states, killing 300
Navy SEALs burst into his room and found Bin Laden unarmed.
Bin Laden made some threatening resistance that caused the SEALS to
shoot him to death.
A “significant firefight” erupted, however no American was
injured. One helicopter was left behind because of mechanical failure.
The disabled chopper was detonated causing a large
fire which attracted the attention of Pakistani authorities.
Bin Laden’s son Khalid was also killed in the
gunfire. After killing the terrorist responsible for 9/11,
the SEALs swept the apartment and managed to walk
away with some valuable documents and computer
information.
Osama’s body was removed and his DNA was collected.
The photo of Bin Laden will not be released
because of the violent nature of his death.
It is not known how the rest of the world will react to the death of
Bin Laden, but as President Obama said, “Justice has been served.”
people in its path. Over this past weekend, over 50 twisters were
reported in seven Midwest states with Missouri suffering the most. In
Minneapolis one person was killed, along with another in Kansas. On
Tuesday, at least 6 people were killed in Oklahoma and Kansas.
On Wednesday, May 25, Summit, Portage, and Medina County
were under severe weather conditions. In Cuyahoga Falls, trees and
power lines downed. The roof of a local fire station folded over causing
rain to enter into both the garage and kitchen. Trains were stopped
when the storm began to blow down railroad crossing gates. Both
Summit County and Portage County experienced hail, while Medina
County was being affected by high waters and power lines going out.
Memories
I remember when...
Erin Layne
Staff Reporter
Leprechaun Gold
* The entire cheer team spent the night at my
house and the football boys tried to scare us.
As they ran away, Oliver smacked his head on
an open window and ended up with about 12
stitches. Melissa Ford
* The state overnight trip senior year. Michael
Kendro
* I got a demerit from Kevin Rainsberger and
almost cried when really I was being asked to
Prom! I was so flustered! Also when we had a
dance party in Pat Connell’s car after the Walsh
basketball game. Erica Bennett
* Junior year when Coach was driving the van
for tennis and he stopped suddenly and the
seats all flew forward-the seats on top of us and
the whole tennis team on the floor of the van.
Ironically, Coach just kept driving and never
noticed. Maddie Winer
* When I first came here, how different everything
was from Manchester. When I got my
first report card and it was straight A’s, I knew I
would do well after that. Bridget Conley
* Sophomore year after homecoming when
Sara broke the couch, Christa broke the wall,
and Miranda slept through all of it.
Anna Ciccinelli
* I forget what I did all four years of high
school; we went to Disney World!
Mario Buchanan
* I was sitting in study hall next to Taylor Wedlake
freshman year and when all of a sudden,
Lebron walked into the Student Center, and I
freaked out! He walked right behind us to talk
to one of his ex-coaches, and Taylor and I were
just staring at him so he LOOKS down at us
and says “What’s up?” and flashed us the peace
sign, and I totally flipped out! Best day of my
life. Nicene McNeil
* Nick Codrea made that beautiful half-court
shot at basketball state senior year.
Jessie Neumann
* The basketball team snuck to the student
hotel down at the state tournament. As soon as
we walked in, there were teachers everywhere!
Scary stuff! Acie Carey
* Shannon Hamilton punched me in the face
on Valentine’s Day at Melissa’s house; a year
later, I sliced my head open at Melissa’s house.
Maybe I should ask myself why I still hang out
with her. Haha! Oliver Hildebrandt
* I punched Oliver in the mouth… I still feel
bad about it…I’m sorry! Shannon Hamilton
* When we shared a hotel at State with a large
group of Mennonite women, and Jon and I
had the privilege of talking to them in a very
long elevator ride. It was so great to meet new
people and learn their perspective on life. I
remember when Carlos became the golf coach
for a day, when Anthony Cicione presented his
well researched inquiry board a couple months
after it was due. Joe Bedell
* Boz shot Jon Stone in the eye with an Airsoft
gun. Sonny Howard
* Rose Klein, Kaitlyn Heard, Ray Stone and I
set up a piñata in the art room. Ray was piñata
MVP! Ellen Rochford
* After 5th period religion with Mr. Dages
freshman year, Melissa Paydo tripped me (on
purpose) in the junior hallway. I fell, dropped
all my books, and my shoe came off. All the
juniors laughed at me; Mr. Alniemi called me
‘Andre.’ Maria Lingle
* I was really sick on the day of our soccer
District final. I had gone home after school and
I was shaking and had a fever of about 101°F.
I wanted to play the game despite my head
pounding with every step I took. I had taken a
shot about 20 yards out, and I thought I totally
missed it so I just turned my back and walked
away. I didn’t realize it had gone in until my
teammates were running towards me screaming.
That was one of my best games that year.
Kylie Woyat
* We were sitting in Mrs. Cushing’s Spanish
class, playing a game, and it was my turn. I
got the answer correct and Mrs. Cushing was
getting ready to toss me a Laffy Taffy. As
soon as she threw it, David Bowen stood up
and swatted the Laffy Taffy right into her eye.
Ashlee Unrue
* Sara Stanger, Kate Donahue, and I went to
Mr. Zubs during a 13 hour tech rehearsal and
ran through Highland Square in our wigs and
flapper costumes. I’ll also always remember
driving home from the Walsh basketball game
with Joanna Engels, Erica Bennett, Aubri Farris,
and Patrick Connell singing and dancing
the entire ride. Kaitlyn Carlier
* STVM won the football game against Hoban
senior year, dubbing our senior class the
“Lucky Charms;” going all-out superfan for
Cross Country State and then being locked out
of my room and spending a ‘magical’ night
camping out under the hotel staircase like a
hobo. Analee Haas
* Alyssa Chirappa and I went to the New Moon
premiere in Canton at midnight, and I fell
asleep within ten minutes. Nancy Dunbar
* When Josh Boswell shot Jon Stone in the eye
with an Airsoft gun before the Hoban game.
Kevin Molinelli
* We all tied Carlozzi to a chair at the senior
lock-in. Adam Calet
* Ryne Szurgot lost the basketball team’s Nike
socks. Zach Huffman
* Joey Breiding told me his life story and it
sounded strangely familiar to the plot of Good
will Hunting. (See Joey Breiding’s “I’ll Never
Forget”) Jacob Swords
* When I was working as a janitor at STVM,
numbers would always flash through the back
of my head. I finished the hardest mathematical
equation in Mrs. Korllos’s calculus class. All
the teachers brought me into the school to be a
full time student, but I decided not to.
Joey Breiding
* I was at football practice freshman year, and
it was the day before our first day of school.
We were practicing, preparing for our first
game of the season, and Tyler Rice broke his
knee. He tore his patella ligament and other
major ligaments. The next year on our first day
of 2-a-days, Tyler broke his femur. I’ll never
forget having to take care of him and helping
him while he was on his road to recovery.
Matt McGovern
* I threw a party… sorry Mom and Dad, don’t
kill me; Coach Dave made Shannon shove a
pretzel in her mouth during a game because
she wasn’t supposed to have it on the field.
Her face was priceless and I was crying from
laughter. Lauren Trecaso
* When we went down to the state basketball
tournament sophomore year. Adam Kofsky
* We beat Hoban for the first time in nine
years. I was a freshman and the entire student
section stormed the field. It was a magical moment
and it made our class feel like we were
special and that we made an impact at STVM.
Olivia Myers
* I got to go on the roof for the first time.
Joan Wilson
* When we all tied Ryan Carlozzi to a chair at
the Senior Lock-In. Josh Boswell
* We won the two state championships.
Ricky Johnson Jr.
* I went on K-12. It was crazy and so much
fun. A warning to underclassmen: if you are
going on Kairos in the winter, do not go sled
riding! Chances are, you will get hurt.
* I was so worried about going to band camp
my freshman year, and was nervous about
being with people I had never met before.
Surprisingly, everyone there was so nice and
welcoming that I felt like I was part of one
big family in no time at all. I met some of my
closest friends there, including Maria, who I’ve
been dating for over two and a half years now.
André Belanger
* I became Stage Manager my junior year;
when my brother picked me up from school
because of the bomb threat. Senior Lock-in
when Carlozzi put a hole in the wall.
Leprechaun Gold
I remember when...
ing lunch freshman year and just as he was
about to sit down, I pulled it out from under
him and took it back. He went sprawling
and everyone started cracking up. I let Erin
Thrower drive the Truck (aka Big Boy)
around the school parking lot and sat in the
back, screaming my head off. I remember
when my friends and I went to see Iron Man
2. After it ended, we went out into a downpour
and some wicked lightning. I lost my keys,
phone, and iPod as we ran back to Cassidy’s so
we had to run back to the theater parking lot to
find them! Miraculously, my phone and iPod
still worked despite the puddle we found them
in. Erin Layne
Nick Codrea making the half court shot at
State; K12 ‘Murphy’s Law’ when anything that
could go wrong, did go wrong. Natalie Nervo
* Noah Nicholas told me I have nice curves...
but he was talking about my cousin’s graph.
Simon Beskitt
* We won all four Hoban football games and
took the trophy back for ourselves! We own the
CASTLE! When on every possible day some
of the guys would bring in a giant boom box,
saying ‘OHHHHHH’ whenever someone got in
trouble. Rachel Dodson
*...I already forget. Pat Connell
* We went to Cedar Point and it was pouring
down rain and Dao and I waited in line for
over an hour for the Maverick. The funny thing
was there was a group of guys from our school
screaming “DEDA WHAT?” “DEDICATION!”
behind us waiting in the rain too.
Kayla Krukenmeyer
* Liz showed Mrs. L the Robeks poster she designed
and Mrs. L pointed to a pair of peaches
and said, “Liz, why are those on your paper?”
Mrs. Korllos continued to teach calculus
straight through a practice tornado drill.
Katya Lyuksyutova
* David Bowen swatted a Laffy Taffy and it hit
Mrs. Cushing in the eye. Alyssa Paolucci
* I spilled honey mustard all over my white
school pants and it dried yellow so it looked
like I had an ‘accident. Oh, wait, that was about
three weeks ago...thanks everyone.
Melissa Foster
* I will remember that night at Pat Castner’s
house. Vince Michalec
* When the people who actually stole the
goose, stole the goose; when the Campbells
kidnapped Joe Bedell after school and the
intense chase through West Akron neighborhoods
that followed; when I sprinkled glitter on
Nikki Almenar while Joe Bedell asked her to
Prom but she’d already been asked; sleeping on
Margret Woods’ porch on the Fourth of July;
when I dumped tater tots into Maria Arnone’s
purse; putting water on people’s chairs during
lunch. Matt Karipides
* I was given a ticket for J-walking at the Riverfront
the summer before sophomore year. The
cop made me cry so hard that I was shaking
and hyperventilating. I had to go to Dan Street
for court but missed my court date. I had a
warrant out but my dad called and rescheduled.
I waited 5 hours in the waiting room and the
judge threw it out and said it was ridiculous.
Hayley Bryan
*Sophomore year in my science class Jakarr
threw a chair. It was the funniest thing and he
didn’t even get in trouble.
Karla Jefferys
* John Friess tried to ask me to Prom by writing
all over the wrong car, and Mrs. Conroy
sent me a note first period that I left the lights
on in my car when I didn’t even drive to school
that day. Mary Corpas
* My awesome lunch table. Even though
we’ve changed tables and seats in the cafeteria
throughout the years, the people at my table
have always stayed the same. We have had so
many good times and have made such amazing
memories. It was a time we could get together
and take a break from the day. I LOVE YOU
ALL! Shelby Heitzenrater
* We beat Hoban (soccer) twice in one season
and made them cry. Joe Demboski
* I made a dash to eat the Showcase dessert
and watched the dessert slide off the plate,
shattering and the green dessert was all over
the gym wall. Drew DeKemper
* We were at the basketball state championship
(senior year) and Nick Codrea was selected
from the student section at half time to shoot
a half-court shot to try to win a $500 gas card.
After many failed attempts, Nick banked the
shot right in and jumped up and down. The
student section couldn’t stop laughing for 10
minutes. It was hilarious. Laura Shaw
* Chris Motley came to school and didn’t
know it was a snow day so he did the morning
announcements over the PA with the janitor.
Kelly Fulkerson
* The janitors tore down all of the streamers in
the hallway the morning after the Senior Lockin.
We were all so mad and we hung them back
up during 1st period. Mr. Rathz tried to make it
up by giving us necklaces. Lauren Fallucco
* I first went to band camp as a freshman. It
was the first time I met most of my friends.
Colin Daugherty
* Ryan Carlozzi put a hole in the wall during
Memories
the Senior Lock-in. He made so many people
mad that some people hogtied him to get him
back. Andrew Bentley
* My friends saved me. Matt Finocchio
* My 8th period Spanish II class brought an
ice cream cake for Mr. Brownfield’s birthday. It
was a way to get a ‘no homework’ pass for the
day! Noah Bastock
* I went on Kairos and it was the best experience
ever! K-12 was also known as ‘Murphy’s
Law’ because everything that could go wrong,
went wrong. The electricity went out, so everyone
had to brush their teeth with the snow and
tinkle outside. The toilets clogged at least five
times, Nancy hurt her head sledding, and the
busses were very late, all the while there was
an ice-storm. Alyssa Chiarappa
* I survived the “fake bomb threat.” My little
brother begged my dad to keep me home because
he didn’t want me to die. Abby Difeo
* Nicene McNeil and I formed our insurance
company, Fogul McMiller, (with the help of
Justin May). We were based in a locker in the
crowded hallway and also rented our storage
space. Our most famous success was the
case of Mark Murphy vs. Santa Claus over
emotional trauma suffered due to Santa wearing
golf clothes. All requests for legal aid must
go through our secretary. Fogul McMiller, We
gotch your back. Joey Miller
* Freshman year, our science class taught Mr.
Engels the “Crank That” dance; Mr. Brownfield
sang Katy Perry to our English class; we beat
Hoban four years in a row. Shannon Large
* I used to fight with all of my friends,
especially Davonte, and be friends again two
periods later. Bree Cherry
* We won against Hoban in football and being
a ‘Super Fan.’ Also, Cross Country State when
I got locked out of my room and slept under the
staircase at our hotel. Pat Gough
* I met all of my friends freshman year and
football freshman year was the funniest; oh,
and I can’t forget when I played for the St.
Sebastian Terriers. Odell Lyde
May 2011 7

Seniors
I remember when...
* I met all the people who have
been close with me throughout
my high school experience (Odell,
John Dean, D and others) All the
girls I flirted with, hanging out
with my crew; freshman summer
gym. Troy Roebuck
* I sat outside the school with
Nicene on the windiest day of
the year because she left her keys
in the car (she left them in the
ignition). It was right after the
final performance of Thoroughly
Modern Millie on Sunday, and
everyone had already left. We sat
there, waiting for her dad to bring
us the extra set of keys, freezing
with only a snuggie between the
two of us. It took her dad 30-40
minutes to get to the school and
the whole time I constantly yelled
at her about how I hated the cold
(and her). I’ll never forget that
mess. Jasmine Wyatt
I fed Ashleigh Stevens some gross
concoction on Halloween, and she
couldn’t eat it because it was so
nasty. McKenzie Bremer
* Jessica, Chelsea, and I decided
to go on a run at 12:00 at night.
We ended up in a field full of fog
and decided to run in it till 2:00.
This was the time that we realized
we were best friends. I hope we
can be later on in life.
Bernadette Myers
* The canned food portion that
Analee and I were assigned to
deliver after beef stock stayed
stacked and crammed in our
locker until the end of junior year.
The cans fell every day but we did
clean out during exam week and
donate them! Kelly Schuerger
* I was on stage crew for Blithe
Spirit and it was our opening night
and then we went to the midnight
showing of Harry Potter. The next
morning we had another show
and I had a physics test 8th period
and then another show three hours
later. Sarah Dunlap
* I first came to this school during
summer gym, not knowing anyone.
Then, over the years, meeting
new friends that I am glad to have
and hopefully will have for a long
time. Kyle Killingsworth
* Josh Boswell shot Jon stone in
the eye. (Accident) Nick Billotti
* We had our Senior Lock-In and
I didn’t get a minute of sleep and I
slept in every class.
Taylor Wedlake
* I got in a car accident with Holly
Middlecoop, Mary Gaffney, and
Grace Murray. Kristen Urdiales
*Ashlee, Kristen, and I decorated
Anthony Cicione’s goose in his
front yard. Mary Gaffney
* My friends and I rode the bus to
the Cardinal Mooney game freshman
year. G. Golding
* I walked in the 1st day freshman
year and my “Big Brother”
Mike showed my where all of
my classes were; or when Rocket
Team qualified for Nationals.
Matt Schwenning
* My first year on yearbook. The
best! Chavonne Gaines
* I received my first demerit. It
was for talking and was given to
me by Mrs. Kropf. I was so upset
and cried when she gave it to me.
She proceeded to say “Oh, well,
there’s a first time for everything!”
Bria Burns
Leprechaun Gold
* Senior football campout; beating
Hoban all four years (especially
senior year); singing on the bus
rides to away games; Kevin
Sickels as “Paul Revere”; playing
Beatles Rock Band until 4a.m.
with Free and Vince; Senaca Crew
2011; State sophomore and senior
year; Kairos (K-12… Nothing
rhymed with 12).
Taylor Kovalycsik “TK”
* We had Saturday choreography
rehearsal for Crazy for You and it
was the same time as the basketball
semi-finals (junior year). We
were keeping track of the game
from people texting us in between
dance numbers. Liz Johnson
yelled “We’re going to State!” and
we all screamed and jumped for
joy, and then I got a text saying
we lost. The rest of rehearsal was
super awkward. Melissa Paydo
* I went on K-12. It was crazy
and so much fun. A warning to
underclassmen: If you are going
on Kairos in the winter, do not go
sled riding! Chances are, you will
Leprechaun Gold
The craziest thing I’ve ever done...
Tessa Weigand
staff reporter
*My sophomore year, Kevin Murphy, Graham Giles, and I created a full
dance to ‘Sandstorm’ and we performed it for the cast and crew of The
Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 two hours before the Friday performance.
And yes, it is on YouTube. Noah Bastock
*Roll around in a foot of snow wearing only a pair of tiny swimming
trunks and then jumping into a hot tub. Simon Beskitt
*Changed my hair color three times in one school year- three times too
many... I don’t think I’ll live that down! Rachel Dodson
*Running around my neighborhood at 3 a.m., and finding out the next
day that a murderer was apprehended in the same neighborhood.
Erin Layne
*Cliff jumping junior year. Aubri Farris
*I’m not very crazy but when I was little, I did a sommersault down a
flight of stairs. Adrienne Henterly
*I wore a gold spandex suit to all the home football games, especially
the time I wore chaps with it. Ryan Porcellato
*When we drove to Colorado in a giant motor home with my whole family
of eight and Melissa Ford, Antonio D’Abrosca, Tim Kananen, and
random little friends of my siblings. Craziest car ride ever! We could not
wait to finally get there! Total of 14 people! Danielle Freeman
*Ask Joey Breiding, Anthony Cicione or Nick Conlon....I’m sure they
could fill you in...Oliver Hildebrandt
*Rolled down the big Maple Hill with Ashlee Unrue...enough said! Also,
skipped class with Deneice Willis so I could finish my English multigenre
project. Bree Cherry
*One day, junior year, when we had a snow day, TK, Kelly Shuerger,
Analee Haas, and I went to an anonymous Rec Center. We wanted to
be in the same sauna together, but the saunas were in each gender’s
respective locker room. So, we decided to sneak into the women’s locker
room. And for fun, TK and I put on extra bikini tops. In the end, we got
caught and banned for six months. We went to see The Blindside after!
Pat Gough
*I haven’t done anything crazy. Haha! Brandi Goosetree
*Mario said hello to me one morning by cupping his hands and smacking
me in the ears. So I promptly flipped him. I developed the ability to
laugh like a madman, so in my junior year I stood in the small hallway
and scared everyone at the end of the day. PJ Morley
*So I wasn’t really planning on going to Homecoming this past year, so
I never got around to buying a ticket. Homecoming rolled around, but
I still wanted to be a part of it. So I went to Natalie Nervo’s house for
pictures. I had such a good time that I sort of wanted to go to the dance
even though I didn’t have a ticket. I figured that I had nothing to lose so I
decided to try to sneak in. Long story short, I had a fantastic time!
Dylan Garritano
*Hill climbing the big hill behind the school in my dad’s Dodge Ram
and doing donuts in the parking lot with my Charger at night. Fun times,
fun friends, and lots of laughs. Ryan Carlozzi
*I bought Jasmine Wyatt twelve carnations junior year.
John “Renowned” Dean
*Roadtrip to Colorado to snowboard for Christmas break. An RV loaded
with twelve people. Melissa Ford
*Getting demerits from Mrs. Hilovsky with Kaitlin and Jess for skipping
her class after an assembly. Anna Ciccinelli
Screaming “I love Salvatore Faetanini,” out my window, riding down
Broad Boulevard. Nancy Dunbar
*At band camp sophomore year, Analee Haas and I dyed our hair pink!
We also pierced Kelly Shuerger’s ears! Maria Lingle
*December 22, 2010; dreamer’s...; Operation Alfalfa Part 2 (summer
soph/jr year); drove to Geneva-on-the-Lake with Mitch Wassam for a
concert at 3 a.m. in the middle of a blizzard; one snow day during junior
year, Pat Gough, Analee Haas, Kelly Shuerger, and I went to a certain
Seniors
rec center and Pat and I had the brilliant idea of sneaking into a sauna
dressed as females (no regrets); midnight viewing of Rocky Horror
Picture Show with Freeland, Kaitlyn, and Analee; met Leon, the man
with the “Secret Knowledge,” at an East Cleveland gas station after a
tire blowout with Kevin Sickels and Matt McGovern (got a police escort
through downtown Cleveland after), the rest of my crazy stories are
probably not appropriate to share with this newspaper, but are unavailable
upon request. Taylor Kovalycsik
*Held a D-Day, in Mr. Engel’s class. We made all types of weapons and
had a fun day. Troy Roebuck
*Mary, Kristen, Alyssa, Nancy, Annie, and I went on a scavenger hunt
around town. Some of the things on the list included: “sing a song in the
middle of Chapel Hill Mall,” “serenade a cute guy,” and “pump someone
else’s gas.” It was so fun and my team definitely won! Laura Shaw
*Joe and I took a friend’s dog’s electric fence collar and held it while
crossing into his neighbor’s yard. For the next split second, I could not
feel the left half of my body. Then, we were going to put it on Joe’s neck
but we proceeded to let logic and reason talk us out of that brilliant idea.
Vince Michalec
*Speedballing on the weekends. Keith Martin
*What can I say?????? Mark Murphy
Ran across an 8 lane highway at crtoss country state. Ian Walsh
*Stole the goose, slept on the football field, Megglen Ave (you know
who you are), boys soccer game at Hoban, partied with the Puritans, 4th
of July. Nick Conlon
*Cliff jumping at Nelson’s Ledges Quarry Park, and the polar bear jump
five years straight. Bridget Conley
*Innapropriate for news. Ask me later. Joe Demboski
*During the Senior Lock-in, I danced hip-hop in the band room and
made Chinese signs all around the school. Joey Miller
*Stayed at the school until two in the morning my junior year building
the set for the play because it wasn’t even close to being finished.
Abby Difeo
*Having a hit and run in the mall parking lot with my sister’s car. I didn’t
tell my mom when I got home until the police called five minutes later
and told my mom I was involved in a hit and run… whoops.
Alyssa Chiarappa
*Jumped out of a moving car. Matt Finnochio
*Singing extremely loud and off key in public and attacking the inside of
my bowling coach’s car with glitter. Lauren Fallucco
*Had my shirt untucked without a belt, texted during class, ran in the
halls, drank coffee in the hall, and didn’t buy a parking pass…. COOL!
Kelly Fulkerson
*Mary, Kristen, Alyssa, Nancy, Annie, and I went on a scavenger hunt
around town. Laura Shaw
*Went to Chapel Hill with friends and got kicked out of JC Penneys.
After getting kicked out, we were stalked by a creepy old man with one
leg. Cassidy Toth
*Showing up at a party! Surviving study hall with Joe Bedell.
TaLeitha Varner
*Calling the police on Halloween because there was a masked murderer
in Lauren’s house… Luckily the attractive policeman and his dog Diesel
saved the day. Shannon Hamilton
*Tee-peeing a certain person’s house junior year. Adam Calet
*When Neal and I played “Rockband” for six hours straight without
pausing the game at all. Kevin Molinelli
*The Goodyear Heights Metro Park. Sonny Howard
*The bird dance in Alice in Wonderland, wore skirts every day for a
semester, joined cross country. Ellen Rochford
*I can’t recall anything specific, so I’ll let the reader decide. I’m sure
you can think of something ; John Bashor, Matt Karipides and Carlos
Lugo. Aaron Carey
The craziest thing I’ve ever done...
*Alexis Wyatt and Jasmine Wyatt were spending the night at my
house sophomore year and simultaneusly John Dean, Troy Roebuck
Odell Lyde and DJ Williams were having a sleepover a few houses
down. So we decided to go galloping up the street at 4 a.m.and ended
up just standing on the sidewalk and talking, so really, what was the
point? Nicene McNeil
*Roof Team. Both the good and the bad. Colin Daugherty
*Sneaking Pat Gough and TK into the women’s sauna at the Medina
Rec Center with Kelly Shuerger... and consequently, being banned for
all eternity. Best snow day ever! Analee Haas
*This one time at band camp.....Kaitlyn Carlier
*Using a remote-controlled toy car in Highland Square Theater to
help Isaac Cabe ask his date to prom. Andre’ Belanger
*Becoming best friends with Kristen Urdiales. Mary Gaffney
*Built a fake bomb with Ryan Porcelleto and made a 50 stuffed oreo.
*When I unhinged a door in my house to use as a table.
Jessica Durbin
*The craziest things I”ve ever done are probably not okay to put in a
school newspaper. Freeland Oliverio
* A scavenger hunt junior year. We rolled down the hill at STVM,
serenaded a random boy, did a cheer in the middle of the mall, tried
on random clothes at Hot Topic , and
placed a traffic cone in someone’s
driveway. Annie Nanez
*Was walking into Mr. Zubs with
Kaitlyn Carlier and Kate Donahue
wearing flapper dresses, bobbed wigs,
and tons of stage makeup during a 13
hour tech rehearsal for Thoroughly
Modern Millie.
Sara Stanger
*I decided to shoot a half-court shot in
even crazier than taking it in the first place. Jasmine Wyatt
*I was in the car with Maddie Winer and we passed this car of kids about
our age and they looked at us, then decided to pass us, so we passed them
back. We basically had a race down the highway, but then we had to get off
at our exit! Jaime Raglow
*I cannot divulge such information. Adam Kofsky
*When Shannon and I took my four wheeler on the main road in a lightning
storm with our bathing suits on. Lauren Trecaso
*Play kidnap with a bunch of STVM and Hoban kids. The Hoban kids
dropped Kevin Sickels and me off at the end of a long driveway. As the
Hoban kids drove away, this one guy cutting the grass approached us. He
stoppped the car and made everyone get out. We told him that we went the
wrong way and we were turning around. It was the scariest/ craziest night
of my life. Matt McGovern
Just being me! Joey Breiding
*Having a boxer run at the Dayton trip for cross country. Zach Huffman
I have shared with you. I would also like to say, don’t give up on your
and don’t harm the new freshmen too much. Cassidy Toth
*I just want to thank all my friends for making this a great four years!
You guys are the best and I’m going to miss you so much next year! I
will never forget all of our fun times we had together! I love you all.
Mary Gaffney
*To all my friends, you know who you are. We’ve been together since
freshman year. We’ve been through it all; from crazy cheer coaches to
stupid boys. All the nights we spent eating… and well, eating. I don’t
know how I will ever find another group of friends as weird as you guys.
To all of you, never change! April Zaratsian
Shout out to Ben Bashor and my brother Nick. Continue the tradition!
Don’t get caught up in all the drama and stay true to yourself most
importantly. Don’t care about what people think of you, everyone has
their flaws, it’s called life. To get respect, you must give respect first.
Be friends to everyone and don’t seclude anyone else just because they
aren’t in your “clique.” Remain open to everyone! High school is where
I want to thank all of the junior football boys. You guys were awesome
will have no problem stepping up. Good luck next year. To my class, I
couldn’t have asked for a better class to graduate with. We’ve had our
ups and downs, but came out on top at the end of the day. I’m going to
miss all of you so much. Vince Joyce
*First, I would like to thank God and my supporting family. Without
past four years, for making my stay enjoyable. I would like to thank my
your heart and never overlook the good in others. You can always learn
something new by accepting the unfamiliar. To the football team: never
forget the lessons we learned together. Unite as a family, love each other,
don’t receive immediate satisfaction. Meghan Weber
*Rose, Kaitlin, Maria and Luke, you made this year for me. Thank you
for being there for me through thick and thin, introducing me to Old
Greg, Marcelle the Shell, and that Japanese Monster. Ellen Rochford
*Do all of your homework and keep your grades up. Sonny Howard
*I’d like to thank everyone in band, especially the low brass section, for
helping making this the best four years of my life, I’d also like to thank
all of my close friends- Andy, Dan, Matt, Ryan, and Isaac, to name a
few- for all the great times we’ve had over these past years. Lastly, I’d
like to thank Maria Lingle for being there for me through thick and thin,
even before we started dating. It’s definitely going to be tough for me not
being able to see you as often in college, but I know that I’ll still be able
to confide in you for anything that may happen…So, thanks everyone,
for a wonderful four years of high school!
for the rest of my life. I have made some lifelong friends and have met
some pretty awesome people. I’m going to miss almost everyone and
want to wish the class of 2012, 2013, and 2014 the best as they continue
their journey here. Make sure you take your education seriously because
your entire future might depend on it. My favorite aspect of STVM was
the fact that I was able to deepen my relationship with God, since I had
gone to public school for grade school. Being able to do this was very
important to me, and I will never forget it. Thank you to all my friends
and teachers who gave me one of the best times of my life.
girlfriend Emma whom I’ve had the pleasure of seeing every day for the
past three years. You make me smile every morning, and I’m going to
the most of your high school years while you have them. It goes by so
fast. Always remember to live life to its fullest.
Ryan Carlozzi
*It took me until senior year to figure out how to be social. DO NOT
WAIT THAT LONG! Go to games, talk to people. Open up. Go ahead
and ask someone to a dance. Go ahead and talk to your classmates. Don’t
forget to enjoy high school and always live the fourth.
PJ Morley
Get to know your classmates while you still have the chance and definitely
both of you influenced my major and future career. Thank STVM for you
have readied me for the world. I love you all!!
*Not everyone in high school is going to like you, but don’t change
who you are. Many will be quick to judge you and make fun of you,but
you need to return it with a smile because the years go by too quickly to
worry about the things that don’t matter. Find out who you are and stand
true to yourself. To all of my best friends: thank you for always being
us we had to leave.” The difference between school and life? In school,
you’re taught a lesson, then a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches
you a lesson.” Alyssa Chiarappa
here have cared for me during fragile moments. I love all of you. There
like to thank the teachers that stuck with me, whether it was my sometimes
Meredith, I love you, and I’ll miss you a lot. Don’t wreck my car or let
everything, and I hope you win it all next year. Isaac Cabe
*For the future yearbook staff (especially Jaimee, Mitch, and Winnie),
you now lead the staff of yearbook. Remember to keep a positive attitude
and focus on getting the job done. Remember to stick together and
sis. Don’t ever forget it. Never fear when I am gone, we will still forever
be sisters. Have a good rest of the year. Bernadette Myers
unproportioned thought his act. Be though
familiar, but by no means vulgar. Beware of entrance
to a quarrel, but being in, bear’t that the
opposed may beware of thee. Give every man
thy car, but few thy noise.” (William Shakespeare’s
Hamlet, Polonius advice to Laertes)
P.S. Cool Runnings- “Peace be the Journey.”
most of it. Becca Bridenthal
are temporary and so is life. Try to be nice,
