STVM PLANS SCIENCE FAIR
FOR FEBRUARY
The Science Department at St. Vincent - St. Mary High School is pleased to
announce that our first ever STVM Science Fair will be held Thursday, February
12, from 3 to 8 p.m. in our gym and theatre. Top science students will enter
their Science Inquiry Projects in one of twelve categories of science, modeling
the Ohio Academy of Science format. Sponsored Awards will be presented.
Projects will be judged and those earning a “superior” rating will advance to
The University of Akron District 5 competition held in March. District winners
will advance to State Science Day held at The Ohio State University in May.

2008 SHAMROCK SOCIETY MASS HONORED
OUR DEDICATED SUPPORTERS!
The 2009 Shamrock Society Mass and Reception is scheduled
for August 27, 2009. If you join the Shamrock Society or renew
your membership with an annual gift of $1,000 by June 30, 2009,
you will be invited to the Annual Shamrock Society Mass. You will
receive an official donor recognition key that will admit you and
one guest to all STVM sporting events and musical and theatrical
productions during the 2009-2010 school year. It is a wonderful
way to see how your generosity impacts the lives of our students.
SPEAKER SERIES RETURNS!
On Thursday, January 15, 2009 our speaker will be Christopher
Wilkins, Music Director of the Akron Symphony Orchestra. Under
Mr. Wilkins leadership, the Symphony has undertaken several
new initiatives including a three concert Pops series, the Akron
Symphony Chamber Choir, and the Odyssey series for famiilies.
He has made it a priority to bring the orchestra to outlying
communities, and to develop partnerships with the Akron Art
Museum, Summit County Historical Society, and Hale Farm and
Village, among others.
Born in Boston, Mr. Wilkins earned his bachelor’s degree from
Harvard College. He received his master of music degree from
Yale University, where he studied with Otto Werner-Mueller.

PARENTS’ CLUB PROPOSES AMENDMENT
TO BY-LAWS
Article IV Section 1, Article V Sections 3 & 4 and Article
VI Section 1.a “Combine the officer positions of Recording
Secretary and Corresponding Secretary into one officer
position of Secretary. Responsibilities of the Recording
Secretary and the Corresponding Secretary would then
become the responsibilities of the Secretary. The Executive
Committee would then be made up of the President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, immediate Past-President
and Principal or appointee.”
Copies of the present By-Laws are available upon request.
This Amendment will be voted upon at the regular meeting
on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Please contact Roberta

MAHAR AND CRUSADER NOMINATIONS DUE
The STVM Alumni Council is again pleased to present the
opportunity for the STVM Family to nominate their friends and
colleagues for the 2009 Mahar Outstanding Alumni Award and
the 2009 Irish Crusader Award. The deadline for submitting
nominations for these two prestigious awards is Wednesday,
December 31, 2008. Nomination forms can be found in
“Awards and Scholarships” in the Alumni section of the STVM
website. The Annual Mahar Banquet will be held on April 23,
2009 at Tangier Restaurant.

TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR 2009-2010
In-coming Freshmen (Class of 2013)
The in-coming freshmen postmark deadline for completing the
PSAS form as well as scholarship applications was November
29, 2008. To be considered for financial aid the PSAS must
be filed. Families will be notified of their aid package by mail
the week of January 5, 2009. Note: Families with both an
incoming freshman and upperclassmen already at STVM
(students entering grades 10-12) should have completed the
early November 29 PSAS application. You may also include
students at parochial grade schools on this application.
Upperclassmen (Students entering grades 10-12)
Upperclassmen applications for Family and Memorial
Scholarships will be available as of January 5, 2009. Please
see Mrs. Wallace in the Business Office. The deadline to apply
for these scholarships is February 16, 2009. The PSAS is a
requirement for many of the scholarships.
Upperclassmen applications for Tuition Assistance (PSAS
form) will be available January 12, 2009 in the Business
Office. Families who were previously awarded financial aid will
receive a courtesy copy by mail. All families must reapply for
aid each year. All PSAS applications must be completed and
postmarked by March 2, 2009 to be considered for aid for the
2008/2009 academic year.

Christmas shopping is happening in the Bookstore.
Our shelves and rounders are stocked with
merchandise for IRISH FANS of all ages. We
have stadium jackets, golf jackets, fleece jackets, a
dressy faux fur jacket,and rain gear. We have petite
feminine hoodies and tees both long and short. We
have basketball and football hoodies and zip hoodies.
The bookstore now carries a variety of caps in green
and khaki. We have blankets and flags, seat cushions
and umbrellas. We have tote bags and duffle bags,
night shirts and p.j. pants in assorted colors and sizes.
Our “Children’s Corner” has just the right gift for future
STVM students!
We are always stocking our BARGAIN BINS.
Presently we are offering a 50% discount on a second

Leprechaun Theatre Guild does it again!

The unveiling and dedication of the Boarman Backers
permanent sign was held at John Cistone Field/Green Street
Stadium on November 12, 2008. The Boarman Backer Club
was established in the spring of 2007 to support the efforts of all
Irish athhletic programs. Naming opportunities were established
and offered at John Cistone Field/Green Street Stadium and
the Field House. Naming rights will continue to be sold for
pennants in the concourse area for $5,000 and bleachers for

The witty and ingenious “Musical Comedy Murders
of 1940” was produced in the professional style we
have come to expect of our Leprechaun Theatre
Guild in November. Piling one plot twist upon
another, the play poked fun at some of the absurd
aspects of that era of Hollywood “show biz”and had
the audience cracking up at the bizarre characters
and general silliness. This hugely enjoyable
production was just the most recent example of
Director Gerard Neary and company’s enormous
talent and incredible hard work! Watch for the next
production of the Leprechaun Theatre Guild when
they present an “Audience Participation Murder
Mystery Dinner” on Friday, January 23, 2009. You
don’t want to miss this one! Tickets are $13 and
include dinner, beverage, dessert, and a “night of
