St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group Limited - Annual Review 2007 Mission Effectiveness Mission & Values Committee As we face the many challenges today we maintain the philosophy of caring which is the very essence of our mission. Mission Committee Our thanks to all the members who gave so generously of their time and shared their creative ideas in seeking ways to promote the mission. The committee met every two months. Mission Education Programmes Units 1 & 2 of the Mission Effectiveness programmes were held on a regular basis throughout the year, all departments were represented with a total of 208 in attendance. It was evident from the responses from the groups that there was strong support for the mission and efforts made in all areas to integrate the values. Feedback was collated and presented at the Mission Committee and at Heads of Departments meetings. Mission Statement The new Group Mission Statement is now on display in the three hospitals. In addition laminated cards (credit card size) displaying our core values were prepared in-house and distributed to staff at Heads of Departments meetings. Accreditation In preparation for accreditation, quality standards based on evidence in relation to Mission Integration were prepared for the Leadership and Partnership Team who are working on “Developing the Organisation’s Culture”. With strong emphasis on the delivery of high quality care we realise that quality and mission have much in common and are the foundation for all the services we provide. Role of a Clinical Ethics Committee Meetings were held for all staff in the Group with the Professor of Health Care Ethics, RCSI starting a process of consultation, which hopefully will result in the setting up of a committee that would address ethical concerns. Celebrations • There was a great attendance at the Mass celebrating our Foundation Day on the 23rd January. Many enjoyed the refreshments and the interactions afterwards. • On the feast of St Vincent de Paul, Mass was celebrated at 5.00pm for our deceased and bereaved staff. This celebration was much appreciated. Oratory The Oratory was refurbished this year. Staff from Health & Safety, Infection Control and Chaplaincy were involved. Thanks to all in Technical Services who completed a splendid job. Long Service Awards Long service awards were presented to staff from the three hospitals on 23rd October following the launch of the annual report. It is hoped that this celebration will now take place each year on Foundation Day. Hospital Choir The Choir performed in a wonderful and professional way at all our important celebrations. Staff provided the music playing - organ, violin, flute & viola. A wonderful selection of both carols and music was also performed for staff and patients for the Christmas season. Lunch breaks were given over to practice and recitals took place in the Atrium with excellent acoustics. It is indeed an event worthy of note in this report. Thanks to all who were so generous with their time and talents. Return to Contents 7
