• There was further development of the OH webpage to aid the dissemination
of information about OH services and activities;
• Action has been initiated and developed in the following areas:
i.) Policy matters:
• A suite of policies and standard operating procedure’s (SOP) were
approved and implemented in 2007.
• The following policies were approved;
- Hepatitis B: Protection of Patients and Staff Hospital Policy
(Incorporating the Hepatitis B Vaccination Programme)
- Management of staff exposed to potential Blood Borne Viruses by
the Occupational Health Department and Emergency Staff.
- Administration of the Influenza Vaccination to hospital staff.
• The following SOP’s were approved;
- The management of food handlers with symptoms of
gastroenteritis.
- The management of staff with symptoms of gastroenteritis.
- Surveillance and screening of BSc nursing students for MRSA and
the management of hospital staff who colonise MRSA in a Carrier
Site.
- A management protocol for the administration of Lyclear or other
appropriate medication to hospital staff exposed to the Sarcoptes
Scadei.
- The management of the medication used in the treatment of
hospital staff exposed to Pediculus Humanus Capitis
- The Administration of Rifampicin or other appropriate medication to
hospital staff exposed to the Meningococcal Meningitis Bacterium.
- The management of staff exposed to the measles virus.
- The management of staff exposed to the mumps virus.
- The management of staff exposed to the rubella virus.
- The management of staff exposed to the varicella zoster virus.
