St. Vincent's Private Hospital
Information Technology
Major progress was achieved in the IT area in 2007. An IT users group was formed to steer the overall
progression of IT and to approve and monitor the development of the service. The group comprises members
of the senior management, staff from key departments and senior management from the ICT department of
St. Vincent’s University Hospital.
The Hospital entered a service level agreement with the ICT department of St. Vincent’s University Hospital
during the year. An integral part of the agreement was the employment of three new staff to augment the
pool of expertise in the ICT department. In this way both St. Vincent’s Private Hospital and the Healthcare
Group have gained; the Private Hospital can now develop with the significant expertise of the department
while the Group has gained new staff and skills in a time when such development has been restricted in the
public sector.
Considerable work has been achieved in bringing the infrastructure of ICT up to a new level and in providing
a secure and robust platform for future development. This has enabled the hospital to develop the network
and expand it to additional staff and departments – both clinical and non-clinical. Work has also commenced
on introducing new applications in both clinical and financial areas. These projects will be completed in 2008.
Planning for ICT in the new Hospital has commenced with plans being developed for hardware and
applications. This work will continue to be refined in the next year.
Capital Development
Together with the other Divisional Managers, Corporate Services has embraced the planning and
development of the new Hospital with enthusiasm. This exciting project has been progressed with the design
team and the commitment will continue through the design and build stages to completion in 2009 / 2010.
In 2007 capital expenditure continued on major and minor developments to ensure the continued high level
of service in the period prior to the opening of the new hospital.
