The Stella Adler Studio of Acting<br />
is thrilled <strong>to</strong> announce its<br />
brand new Monday Night<br />
Workshop Series! The Series<br />
will run from January 31<br />
through April 18, 2011, and offers<br />
classes in movement, voice, improvisation,<br />
and auditions.<br />
The Monday Night Workshop<br />
Series is divided in<strong>to</strong> three 4-Week<br />
Cycles. The schedule for <strong>the</strong> first 4-<br />
Week Cycle is as follows:<br />
MOVEMENT<br />
Monday, January 31 from 8 <strong>to</strong> 10 p.m.<br />
with instruc<strong>to</strong>r Richard Handy.<br />
This class explores <strong>the</strong> Williamson<br />
Technique and a Laban-based<br />
approach <strong>to</strong> movement for ac<strong>to</strong>rs,<br />
focusing on connecting <strong>the</strong> ac<strong>to</strong>r with<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir environment and o<strong>the</strong>r people<br />
and developing a sensory connection<br />
that <strong>the</strong> body processes in<strong>to</strong> behavior.<br />
Two major aspects of <strong>the</strong> work are<br />
freedom and connection.<br />
VOICE<br />
Monday, February 7 from 7 <strong>to</strong> 9 p.m.<br />
with instruc<strong>to</strong>r Dusty McKeelan.<br />
Students will work through an<br />
extensive routine based on an array of<br />
vocal techniques, including those of<br />
Kristin Linklater and Cicely Berry, with<br />
an emphasis on using physical release<br />
and breath manipulation <strong>to</strong> access a<br />
more full, clear, and effective voice.<br />
IMPROVISATION<br />
Monday, February 21, from 7 <strong>to</strong> 9<br />
p.m. with instruc<strong>to</strong>rs Richard Handy<br />
and Dusty McKeelan.<br />
Participants will explore a<br />
series of improvisation games an<br />
exercises based on <strong>the</strong> techniques<br />
of practitioners like Viola Spolin<br />
and Augus<strong>to</strong> Boal in order <strong>to</strong> free<br />
<strong>the</strong> mind and body of habitual<br />
choices and <strong>to</strong> discover <strong>the</strong> joy and<br />
truth of living in <strong>the</strong> moment.<br />
AUDITIONS<br />
Part 1: The Business and <strong>the</strong> Basics.<br />
Monday, February 7 from 7 <strong>to</strong> 9 p.m.<br />
with instruc<strong>to</strong>r Marty Rader.<br />
Mr. Rader brings over three<br />
decades of experience, including 28<br />
years as Head of Acting at North<br />
Carolina School of <strong>the</strong> Arts, <strong>to</strong> this<br />
workshop which will give students<br />
specific <strong>to</strong>ols <strong>to</strong> approach auditions<br />
like professionals. Topics such as<br />
monologue selection, what scares a<br />
direc<strong>to</strong>r, what you can and cannot<br />
control, choices, cold readings, how<br />
<strong>to</strong> prepare and many more will be<br />
covered in this three part series.<br />

A-B Tech will host <strong>the</strong> 2011<br />
Western North Carolina<br />
Theatre League Unified Auditions<br />
Friday, February 18<br />
and Saturday, February 19 at<br />
Ferguson Audi<strong>to</strong>rium.<br />
Modeled after <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>astern<br />
Theatre Conference auditions, <strong>the</strong><br />
annual event allows local ac<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong><br />
showcase <strong>the</strong>ir talents in a professional<br />
audition setting for a variety<br />
of companies throughout <strong>the</strong> region.<br />
The auditions have drawn up <strong>to</strong> 192<br />
artists and 23 <strong>the</strong>atre, media and talent<br />
companies.<br />
