Streetlife speaks the language of landscape architects 

and urban planners. We supply the building elements for 

landscape or urban plans. We regard it as a challenge to work with 

prominent architects and municipal bodies.

project. Our newly founded Design Lab “Bee Product” for talented 

young designers can provide design & consultancy services at very 

affordable rates while guaranteeing the highest quality possible.

Streetlife has an in-house design and engineering 

team led by Peter Krouwel. The innovative designs 

have received several design awards: Good Industrial 

Design, Nomination for The Dutch Design Prize, 

Nomination for The German Design Prize. 

Peter Krouwel was a partner of npk design for 

25 years and, as such, responsible for the new-style 

post boxes (TNT) and the nationwide signposting for 

Dutch motorways of the ANWB Motorists’ Association, 

among other prize-winning designs. He was also 

a member of the Academic Council of the Design 

Academy Eindhoven (NL) for five years.

Streetlife is Green 

‘Design & Deliver’ 

A key factor in our choice of materials and product development is 

the equation ‘sustainable = eco-friendly + durable’, for example: 

1. The application of renewable energy solutions (such as 

electricity generation by wind energy) in outdoor space. 

2. Use of CorTen steel for open-space development elements, 

with no zinc leaching. 

3. Exclusive use of 100% FSC or FSC Recycled hardwood from 

sustainably managed FSC forests in Europe and South America. 

4. Use of various composite materials as eco-friendly alternatives 

for traditional materials. 

5. State-of-the-art tree planters and tree care systems allowing 

more shrubbery to be planted in urban spaces, i.e. reduced CO 2 

and fine particle levels, also beneficial for climate control in 

large buildings. 

In addition to Streetlife’s permanent collection, it is also possible 

to commission Streetlife to custom design your project on a 

fixed-fee basis or as part of a design & deliver contract. By 

applying years of experience selecting materials for outdoor usage 

and our extensive production technology expertise, Streetlife 

makes a formidable design partner.

Our portfolio includes: benches for the Olympic Parklands in London in

Helmond (NL) i.p.w. Joan Busquets. A long composite bridge in

New Parklands Stratford 2012 

Designprojects 

A completely new bench seating concept was designed and 

developed for the Olympic Parklands in London in partnership 

with architects LDA Design, Hargreaves Associates and 

engineering firm ARUP: the Olympic Wave Bench (see p. 80A). 

Streetlife supplied several hundred benches for the Olympic 

Parklands including the architectural Long&Lean Benches 

(see p. 82A), the rugged Rough&Ready benches along 

the Waterworks River (see p. 21A) and the pre-fabricated WoodTop 

Modulus (see p. 56A). 

Streetlife has created a highly coherent landscape design using 

sustainable 100% FSC or FSC Recycled hardwood as part of one of 

the most ambitious landscape architecture projects of its age. 

- New bridges in unusual locations including statistic calculations 

and technical specifications. 

- Outdoor urban elements for cemeteries, 

e.g. seating, memorial benches and columbaria. 

- Outdoor products incorporating renewable power generation 

options, e.g. wind- or solar energy. 

- Projects involving mobile shrubbery solutions, e.g. tree planters, 

vertical systems and island concepts. 

- Layout of small-scale professional roof terraces.

CorTen Steel 

The use of CorTen steel in public space does not harm or may even 

add to the attractive looks of the natural surroundings. 

CorTen steel can be applied outdoors without any environmentunfriendly 

treatment such as zinc or chemical coatings. 

CorTen is a steel alloy with added chromium, copper and nickel on 

which, after having been exposed to the elements for about six 

months, a dense, water and air-tight patina of rust will appear, 

which will prevent the steel from rusting any further. 

Streetlife supplies various products in CorTen steel. Apart from 

its warm charisma, CorTen steel has a number of advantages: 

it is environment-friendly, graffiti and sticker-resistant, shows an 

attractive fading effect from orange to brown and due to its natural 

oxidation, any repairs or alterations to a CorTen steel structure will 

become invisible in time.

FSC ® Hardwood 

In 1993, the Forest Stewardship Council was founded. This is 

an international network for promoting responsible forest 

management. FSC sets an international standard for good forest 

management and has a seal of approval associated with this 

standard. The FSC seal of approval provides assurance that 

the raw materials in wood and paper products have come from 

sustainably managed forests where attention is given to the 

ecological, social and economic aspects (such as working 

conditions and fair wages for local workers) and bio-diversity is 

effectively protected. FSC is therefore not a government seal of 

approval. FSC is an important instrument in combatting illegal 

felling and deforestation. 

The seal of approval demonstrates that a company is conforming 

to the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council and that its 

policy is approved. 

The mark of responsible foresty 

Streetlife is certified by the FSC as a ‘Chain Of Custody’ (COC). 

This means that the wood, or wood product, is administratively 

tracked through every stage of its processing and distribution. 

This means the (end) user can rest assured that the material in 

a product really does come from sustainably managed forests and 

has been processed by companies that subscribe to the FSC’s 

norms and values. Streetlife is certified for 3 variants: FSC-100% 

(all the wood from an FSC-approved source), FSC-Mix (partly from 

an FSC-approved source) and FSC-Recycled (wood that is recycled 

under specific conditions). 

Both certificates are used for the project that was recently 

completed: 4 bench models for the New Parklands in Stratford.

The robust beams in the R&R programme are available in 3 

materials: 

a- Standard: FSC-100% hardwood from certified South-American 

tree forestry plantations, maximum length 300 cm. Streetlife is 

certified as a COC: ‘Chain of Custody’. 

b- FSC-Recycled: antique, 30-year old hardwood, sawn from 

old mooring posts. This Basralocus is beautiful, and of course 

some cracking and marks from insects are part of the charm of 

this reused hardwood. Maximum length is 234 cm. Used, for 

example, for the benches in the New Parklands in Stratford. 

c- Recycled black plastic (from agricultural plastic sheeting and 

plastic bags) All Black or virgin plastic Snow White. 

These beams are thoroughly black or white and have a coarse 

wood texture. Some air inclusions at the ends of these beams 

are unavoidable.

The R&R-6 benches are available with a low backrest that has 

been rounded to give comfortable support to the lower back. 

The high backrest is also comfortably rounded off and 

is positioned asymmetrically. In combination with the armrest, 

this bench is also highly suitable for older people. We recommend 

its installation at hospitals, nursing homes and other care 

institutions. 

As well as FSC 100% hardwood, FSC-Recycled hardwood is also an 

excellent choice for the planks (7x15 cm). 

With a view to the ambitious standards for the Games in London in 

terms of sustainability and eco-friendliness, the landscape 

architects of the LDA Design and the Steering Committee were 

charmed by this choice of material. Streetlife supplied several 

dozen R&R benches for installation along the Water Works in 

the New Parklands. The FSC-Recycled hardwood is 30-year old 

Basralocus. Some insect marks and a small amount of cracking 

are unavoidable in this antique wood.

The Rough&Ready 10 Benches offer a spacious seating. 

The long bench of 234 cm, like other R&R Benches, can be linked 

with limit by connection supports. 

The Rough&Ready 10 Cubes are the square shaped version 

of these spacious benches. They form playful elements and 

can be combined perfectly with other Rough&Ready Benches.

As the name implies, the Rough&Ready Curve benches are 

curved and display unique character. The single bench is 200 cm 

long and 60 cm deep. The benches can be linked together, 

to create a long, curved bench or a twisting serpentine 

configuration. The accompanying backrest is slightly convex and 

can be mounted at almost any position required. Owing to the 

positioning of the beams, the Curve benches will not be damaged 

by skaters! 

The outer radius of this R&R Curve bench is approx. 800 cm.

By combining straight and curved R&R benches, attractive 

arrangements can be created for any situation. Classical patterns, 

long lines of benches, curved, straight or even completely free 

amoeba-like shapes can be realised.

Our R&R Curve system has three circular configurations: 

3, 4 and 5 metres in diameter. These are well-designed benches, 

ideal for a layout around monumental trees. The convexly planed 

backrests are optional. 

The supports and curved frame are made of thermo-galvanized 

steel. 

The circular benches are made of 100% FSC hardwood. 

They are also available with All Black (recycled plastic) or 

Snow White beams!

Circular Benches with Second Row 

The Gaint Circular Benches can be extended with a ‘Second Row’. 

These circular seating configurations radiate a powerful aura of 

monumental stability. Sitting on a raised platform provides more 

dynamism and a better view of the surroundings. The steel 

support is in a modified, raised version. Because of 

the overhanging upper seat level, the back elements can only be 

fitted on the ‘Second Row’. Armrests can be fitted on each place. 

Because of the enormous lengths of seating, these configurations 

call for a substantial budget. 

Delivery time: 10–12 weeks. 




The timeless R&R Circular Benches are also available in 

the ‘Gaint’ version, with external diameters of 6, 7 or 8 metres. 

Monumental urban trees call for a generous circular bench with 

a well-protected growing space. 

As optional features, the rounded backrest and the universal 

armrest can be fitted as with the R&R Curve Benches.

Rough&Ready Topseats

Our R&R Topseats are loose seats that are mounted on a stone, 

brick or concrete 30 cm high concrete or brick wall. 

The FSC hardwood beams are robust and locked into stainlesssteel 

Streetlock ® comb fittings, which are invisibly embedded in 

the wall or concrete block. Two different models are available: 

• The R&R 5/6 Topseats are long, straight seats. The modules have 

a length of 234 or 300 cm. The beams are attached by means of 

a double rod and stainless-steel theft-proof flanged nuts. 

A backrest element is optional: R&R-1540-Back. 

• The R&R Curve Topseats are ideal for topping slightly curved

The Rough&Ready programme is also available in black beams made 

of re-used synthetic material (old plastic bags, agricultural plastic 

sheeting, etc.) that is black throughout: All Black. 

This sustainable material requires no maintenance and has a coarse 

texture. Ink and paint cannot penetrate the surface and will hardly 

adhere. The black beams and stainless-steel theft-proof nuts give 

the R&R benches an even tougher, more robust appearance! 

The black material is a compound of re-used synthetic materials 

(PE and PP). They remain black due to the UV-stabilization process 

they have undergone. They have been categorized as Fire Class 3 

according to NEN 6065. In contrast to wood, no maintenance is 

needed. The material does not discolour, is extremely durable and is 

extremely environment-friendly (no additives except black soot).

version, is splendidly detailed, with inserted wooden beams.

The Long Green Benches have 2, 3 or 4 Solid Single Seats and are a generous 450 cm in length.



With the CorTen Seat Strips, it is possible to install a long CorTen 

strip 47 cm in height into the ground surface. Several functions, 

such as bench, waste bin, bicycle parking and greenery, 

can be incorporated in a single strip-shaped element. By reducing 

traditional, separate street furniture to a single, long line, one can 

create a streamlined and impressive urban landscape while 

reducing maintenance. 

A special application is the protection of vulnerable facades that 

can be objects of ram-raiding, such as cash dispensers, 

bank entrances and jeweller’s shops. 

The above-ground cross-section is 47x47 cm. We recommend

300 cm in length. The modules are embedded 20 cm into 

the ground surface. No separate foundation is required, thanks to 

the integral foundation solution.

and podiums in the city. A CorTen steel base construction

450x450 cm. In the latter, the slats are attached in staggered

The Cliff Hanger Park Benches are hanging park benches 

attached to a sturdy wall. The finely detailed bench system has a 

modular interval of 120 cm. The prefab slat segments are

Wood Top System 

Our Wood Top System consists of prefabricated slat modules that 

are invisibly mounted on a steel or concrete sub-construction. 

The prefab slat modules are prefabricated mounted by means of 

stainless-steel Streetlock ® comb fittings (in a mini-variant). 

Ultimately no screws are at all visible, yet the slats can easily be 

replaced in cases of maintenance. The slats are made of 100% FSC 

hardwood: 35x57 mm. The gab width between the slats is 

15 mm. The front and back can be optionally finished with 

a vertical slat using the special, stainless steel, anti-theft flanged 

nuts. Horizontal as well as vertical assembly is possible.

The Concrete Camber Seats are switchable modules made of 

concrete and FSC hardwood. The modules can be used to create 

long guiding or demarcating lines in the urban landscape. 

They form both a long seating element and a barrier. They can 

sometimes also be used to mark differences in ground level. 

The strops, made of qualified compressed concrete are always 

fitted with slightly concave Solid Top Seats. The FSC hardwood 

slats (7x7 cm) are solid and sturdy. They are attached to a 

patented Streetlock ® comb with stainless steel anti-theft nuts. 

The seat is attached to the concrete with concealed attachments.

Our Horse Shoe benches have a minimalistic, yet distinctive 

design. The low benches are made of stainless steel (SS 316) 

supports with rounded FSC Cumaru slats: a very elegant and 

hard-wearing combination of materials that can withstand the 

ravages of time. The deep brown colour of the wood differs slightly 

in tint from slat to slat. 

The elevated seat, with the typical round shape of a horse-shoe, 

creates a surprisingly pleasant and active sitting position. 

This bench is easily integrated into architectural plans, both 

out- and indoors. It is also available in a broader version for 

double-sided use, with an integrated shrub tub.

Our Highlife urban bench is a chic, very comfortable 4 & 8-seater 

town bench. The slightly curved back is shoulder-high. The reddish 

brown Cumaru is a durable FSC hardwood that gradually develops 

a beautiful grey patina. Highlife benches are durable, partly due to 

the absence of wooden joints. The high-tech metal frame and 

elegantly shaped supports are finished with a double powder 

coating: Stainless steel Grey or RAL Anthracite. The playful effect of

The Olympic Wave Bench was designed for the New Parklands in 

cooperation with Hargreaves Associates, LDA Design London and 

Arup. A variety of long configurations have been installed by the 

Water Works in Stratford. 

The generously dimensioned, slightly curving bench systems are 

constructed of hot-dip galvanized steel supports and 100% FSC 

hardwood slat modules. The prefab slat modules, with 5x5 cm 

slats, are mounted on the patented Streetlock ® comb system and 

have a length of approx. 90 cm. The radius of the circle segment is 

35 metres. 

There are 7 or more mid-segments with a high backrest. One end 

consists of a low, intermediate segment and an end segment that 

overhangs by 30 cm. The seat height is 47 cm and the total height 

is about 120 cm above the ground surface. The supports are 

anchored to underground bases.

The Long & Lean benches have flat seats made of extremely 

durable FSC red brown hardwood. The benches come in two 

widths: 11 slats (± 65 cm) and 15 slats (± 90 cm). The slats are 

reversible and can be used on both sides. Also available in

The benches are supported by simple, galvanized steel supports.

Commissioned by the Dunea water company and the organisations 

charged with the management of the dune area between 

the towns of Scheveningen, Wassenaar and Katwijk (NL), Streetlife 

designed a special programme of furniture elements: 

the 3D-collection. The consequent application of three basic 

materials: FSC hardwood, CorTen steel and stainless steel, 

resulted in a strong, simple product line with its own identity and 

in perfect harmony with the dune landscape. 

From this 3D series, the Valley bench proved particularly 

successful, which is why is has been added to our regular 

collection.

ABC Park Benches 

Our ABC Park Bench is of a simple, timeless design. 

This vandal-resistant and affordable bench is constructed 

of a brown FSC-approved Brazilian hardwood. This type of 

wood has the highest possible sustainability rating. Due to the 

absence of wooden joints, ABC benches require a minimum of 

maintenance. Sustainability, comfort and value for money are 

the key words here. 

Chemical anchors are used to anchor the bench to the floor or

(4x9 cm). The connecting table top allows space for wheelchairs. 

The thermo-galvanized ground supports form the supporting 

frame for both the table and benches from a single underground

Extra long picnic tables can be realized by means of a connecting 

table top. The table in the picture has a length of approximately 

700 cm. Wheelchair users can occupy the mid-section of the table.

Picnic Tables Solid 

The Solid Picknick tables have a simple, restrained design. 

Both the wooden table leaf and the steel supports are unbroken 

(Solid) in appearance. The tables are available in 2 lengths. 

The table belongs to the Solid range; the benches in this range are 

illustrated on page 62A. 

The FSC hardwood slats (7x7 cm) are attached to Streetlock ® 

combs, giving an 8 mm gap between the individual slats. 

The sturdy slats are attacked with a rod and stainless steel, 

anti-theft flanged nuts. 

The slats can easily be switched or turned around when 

maintenance is required. The Solid Picknick Tables are highly 

suitable for use in schools, on campus grounds etc. The Picknick 

tables are available in 234 and 300 cm lengths. 





X-Tables 

The X-Picknick Table and X-Table are solid, spacious tables with 

diagonal supports. With the X=Picknick Table, the metal supports 

extend elegantly to support the 2 long benches. The resulting 

design is quite striking. 

Also available as a separate table for use on roof terraces etc. 

The table leaf is 93x234 cm and consists of 12 Solid slats 

(7x7 cm) made of 100% FSC hardwood. They are attached by 

flanged nuts to the Streetlock ® comb system, with a gap width of

Big Art Benches 

Our Big Art Bench is a combination of a spacious bench and an 

information stand. This unique bench has a CorTen steel basic 

frame with a fully integrated Rough&Ready sitting edge made of 

FSC hardwood beams. Coated steel is available as an option. 

The information panel is mounted in an upright frame. If desired, 

a laminated glass sandwich can be applied, with the graphic 

image on the glass. This is an extremely durable solution,

Our Clip bicycle rack, being as simple and inconspicuous in the 

streets as a paperclip on a desk, can be applied anywhere: 

from monumental objects to modern architectural surroundings. 

This timeless design is exceptionally functional, and supports all 

types of bikes which can easily be chain-locked to the racks for 

additional security. The Clip bicycle racks has been awarded the 

Dutch quality mark for reliable cycling facilities: 

FietsParKeur 2002. 

The Clip is made of round pipe, ø 4.2 cm, is available in

Rough&Ready bicycle parking is a tough supporting stand for 

bikes. The hole in the steel support is for fixing the bike to 

the stand with a chain lock. The untreated and sustainable FSC

furnished with a natural, user-friendly yet robust bicycle stand.

ideal for outdoor applications. These round glasspot lights 

(ø 3.5 cm and ø 4.2 cm) are virtually indestructible, 

completely water and dust tight, require very little energy and have 

an extremely long life span of approximately 25 years. 

Our patented casting method with a transparent resin results in 

a solid transparent fitting, including cable pull-relief, which 

guarantees trouble-free application in damp underground 

situations or even under water. 

Now, squares, promenades etc. can be furnished with decorative 

as well as functional lighting. These long-lasting and maintenance 

free products are particularly suitable for application in high or

the Tree Air ® root aeration system (patent pending) that can be 

combined simply and effectively with CorTen steel tree grids and

left open along one side. This system does away with the need for

Bowler 

The Bowler lamp post is approximately 4.5 metres high. 

The frame allows all-round light emission and can be fitted with 

various combinations of lights and optics. The stainless steel 

triangle and ring produce an attractive twinkling effect at night, 

reflecting the light from above. The post is coated and provided 

with a connector device. 

The Bowler lamp posts are particularly suitable for lighting

Commissioned by the Dunea water company and the 

organisations charged with the management of the dune area 

between the towns of Scheveningen, Wassenaar and Katwijk (NL), 

Streetlife designed a special programme of furniture elements: 

the 3D collection. The consequent application of three basic 

materials: FSC hardwood, CorTen steel and stainless steel, has 

resulted in a strong, simple product line with its own identity and 

in perfect harmony with the dune landscape. Striking elements in 

this programme are the Valley LED Lights. 

Streetlife combines product design and engineering expertise in 

public space with practical know-how in the field of durability, 

sustainability and environment! 

Valley Programme

The Valley LED Lights are unique CorTen lamp post fixtures for 

lamp posts with heights of 4-5 meters. These high efficiency 

LED-units are equipped with dust closed lens optics. The Valley 

Lights save 30-40% energy compared with conventional PLT light 

technology. Lamp replacement belongs to the past because of its 

long life span (max. 100.000 LED burning hours). Available for 

special timber posts or conventional metal posts.

Rainbow Pillars

These Rainbow light objects are 13 metres high and are a perfect 

combination of functional and decorative LED lighting. A computer 

unit gives full control of the light (colour, intensity, changing 

speed). Summer and winter colour ‘palettes’ are ready available. 

Among other locations, these light objects have been installed in 

the city of Leiden’s bus station area. The Rainbow Pillars can be 

fitted with power LED spots or discreet white lighting. Available in 

various designs for different budgets. Please do not hesitate to 

ask for information about the sheer endless possibilities.

The Mighty Mill ® is an attractive addition to public space. 

These structures are intended to be displayed to everyone rather than hidden out of sight.


Many experts agree that local energy generation – using wind and 

solar energy for example – is essential to the creation of our 

sustainable future. The Mighty Mill ® is a High-yield Micro-Turbine 

based on the Venturi principle. Being moveable and very quiet, 

the Mighty Mill ® is highly suitable for use in public space and on 

roof terraces. 


Thanks to the Venturi principle, the Mighty Mill ® has the highest 

yield per m 2 of rotor surface at wind speeds > 4.5 m/s. 

With an average wind speed of 6 m/s, the yield is approx. 

3.000 KWh/year. With the supplied converter, the MM-Winventer, 

the turbines can be linked to the grid. 


No planning permission is required as long as the configuration, 

including mast and base, is moveable. Furthermore, 

no environmental permit is usually required either because 

the rotor diameter is less than 2 m. Thanks to the silencers around 

the rotor and the vibration absorbers in the mast, the Mighty Mill ® 

is quiet as a whisper. 

The Micro-Turbine automatically turns to face the prevailing wind. 

The mast is at least 6 m high. The supplied Mega Flowerpot serves 

as a mast base. With concrete poured into the mast base, 

the configuration is stable but still mobile.

The Mighty Mill ® has been developed together with experts on 

energy and wind tunnels. The turbine is protected by international 

design filings and patents. In recent years, several dozen Venturi 

wind turbines have been installed and taken into service at 

a variety of buildings and locations in the Netherlands and other 

countries.

The Mighty Mill ® is superbly eye-catching and will quickly prove 

a huge attraction for passers-by. The Venturi turbine easily lends 

itself to the communication of a logo or corporate identity. 

An excellent opportunity for public and private organisations to 

convey their image and policy on sustainability to passers-by in 

an eye-catching way. 





The turbines are highly suitable for use on roof terraces of commercial 

buildings. The Streetlife Gaint Flowerpots and the tree tubs with seating 

are highly suitable as mast bases. A combination of greenery, seating 

benches and decking materials by Streetlife is an obvious choice. 


The wind turbines can easily be installed symmetrically in rows. 

For example, along promenades next to lakes or canals, at trade buildings 

or at festival entrances. 

The turbines can be used without any problem on traffic roundabouts, 

with or without combined road signs and lighting. 

Road intersections and high fly-overs are also potential locations!
