containing three reference pins with the Straum<strong>an</strong>n ® gonyX in order to<br />

surgical sleeves that guide the surgical instruments <strong>an</strong>d the impl<strong>an</strong>t<br />

[6]. There is no need to produce a new template. If desired, the sc<strong>an</strong><br />

template [2] c<strong>an</strong> be reworked into the surgical template.<br />

fabrication by the dental lab<br />

The Straum<strong>an</strong>n gonyX is used by the dental lab for sc<strong>an</strong> template <strong>an</strong>d surgical<br />

template production. The interface between digital impl<strong>an</strong>t pl<strong>an</strong>ning with<br />

Straum<strong>an</strong>n coDiagnostiX <strong>an</strong>d the Straum<strong>an</strong>n gonyX is a user-friendly printout<br />

containing five coordinates (template pl<strong>an</strong>).<br />

The sc<strong>an</strong> template is always connected to the Straum<strong>an</strong>n templiX reference plate<br />

containing three tit<strong>an</strong>ium reference pins. The reference pins are detected by the<br />

software <strong>an</strong>d ensure the link between the software pl<strong>an</strong>ning <strong>an</strong>d the Straum<strong>an</strong>n<br />

gonyX for surgical template fabrication. The patient has to wear the sc<strong>an</strong> template<br />

during radiology. There is no need for a separate sc<strong>an</strong> of the sc<strong>an</strong> template only.<br />

Surgical template fabrication<br />

The basis for surgical template fabrication is the template pl<strong>an</strong> provided by Straum<strong>an</strong>n<br />

coDiagnostiX. This pl<strong>an</strong> contains four parameters for the spatial position of each<br />

impl<strong>an</strong>t <strong>an</strong>d the depth information for the placement of the surgical sleeve.<br />

Additionally, the software provides a printout for the verification of the parameter<br />

settings before drilling <strong>an</strong>d also for controlling the surgical template after<br />

production. It is import<strong>an</strong>t to verify the surgical template for maximum predictability.<br />

After setting <strong>an</strong>d verifying the parameters, the sleeve bed preparation <strong>an</strong>d surgical<br />

sleeve placement is carried out with the drilling arm. There is no need to produce<br />

two separate templates for sc<strong>an</strong>ning <strong>an</strong>d surgery. If desired, the sc<strong>an</strong> template c<strong>an</strong><br />

be reworked into the surgical template.<br />

The Straum<strong>an</strong>n Guided Surgery instruments are used for fully guided impl<strong>an</strong>t<br />

bed preparation in combination with a surgical template containing Straum<strong>an</strong>n ®<br />

surgical sleeves. The Straum<strong>an</strong>n ® Guided Surgery kit contains guided drills, guided<br />

taps <strong>an</strong>d guided profilers with various diameters <strong>an</strong>d template fixation pins. The<br />
