THE Midland Football Alliance season has been
extended to Saturday 4th May after heavy snowfall
wiped out the entire fixture programme again
last Saturday.
Leaders Stratford Town were due to host Gornal Athletic—the
team that could get to within five points of them
if they won all of their five games in hand.
That game will now be played on the last day of the
season on Saturday 4th May. With the reverse fixture
between the two clubs already scheduled for the week
before on Saturday 27th April, it means that the title race
may not be decided until the end of the season.
Weather and pitch conditions permitting, Town get the
chance to resume their title chase tonight (Tuesday) when
Bridgnorth Town visit the DCS Stadium in a 7.45pm kickoff
Ṫhe Shropshire side’s recent run of four straight victories
has lifted them into third place in the league table.
The Easter weekend programme sees two games. This
Saturday, Town travel to Continental Star before hosting
Coventry Sphinx on Easter Monday. Both games kick off at
3pm.
All matches in the Midland Combination and Stratford
Alliance were postponed with pitches all over the region
covered under blankets of snow.
Rugby also suffered with all games involving local clubs
called off. Stratford’s Midlands 1 West game against
Barkers’ Butts was also the club’s ‘Ladies Day’ and that has
now been arranged for Saturday 13th April when the
Black-and-Whites play Camp Hill at Pearcecroft.
Saturday’s race meeting at Stratford was abandoned on
Friday before the snow arrived with the course still waterlogged.
The Luddington Road course has had to cancel both its
opening fixtures this year with the hugely popular Irish
Day a victim to the weather earlier this month.
The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday 13th April
when there will be a seven-race card starting at 1.55pm.

Big top fun at Warwick
THERE will be family fun by the
bucket load at Warwick Racecourse on
Easter Monday for its April Fool’s Day
meeting, including a circus in the
Course Enclosure.
It is also the first flat race meeting of
the season at Warwick and sees six
superb races on the card, with the first
scheduled for 2.20pm.
Other highlights at the Bank Holiday
extravaganza include live music from
rising local musician Matt Bate who
has just been in Barbados recording his
debut EP.
