Marina plan is
given the go-ahead
PLANS to turn a meadow near Bidford into a 24-
berth mooring basin, were given the green light by
Stratford District Council last Tuesday.
The marina will be used
for private boat users at Avon
Farm, in Welford Road,
Barton.
Peter Scully submitted the
plans to the district council,
which will also include a new
vehicle access and 15 car
parking spaces.

statement, his agent, Neil
Healey, said users of the
River Avon would benefit
from the project encouraging
use of the navigable
waterway. This was in accordance
with the guidelines of
the local planning authority,
whose policy was to
encourage water based recreation
within the district.
The report said: “Water
based recreation makes a
considerable contribution to
the local economy. It will
also provide much needed
additional mooring space as
recognised by the LPA.”
The proposed development,
while not increasing
employment on site, will
encourage additional use of
local businesses associated
with the leisure industry.
Bidford Parish Council
supported the application
saying that it will “benefit
local business by attracting
more tourism to the area
potentially creating more
local jobs.” The application
was also supported by district
council ward member Cllr
Maurice Howse (Cons, Bidford
and Salford) who said it
was good for growth and jobs
in the district.
Permission was granted
subject to 27 conditions,
including 13 in the interest
of highway safety.
One of the reasons it was
granted was the economic
benefits the proposed development
had, as the scheme
was sustainable and accords
with the provisions of the
National Planning Policy
Framework (NPPF).
The district council said
that the proposal was also a
suitable small scale recreational
mooring facility,
which was acceptable in
principle with regards to
policies and the Local Plan.
The notice of decision
said: “The mooring basin
will be low key and the boats
will be at a lower level than
the road. Once the proposed
landscaping has matured the
basin will not be prominent
when viewed from the road.”
