July 22, 2012 PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN CLASS AT ST. PETER CAFETERIA MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 7:00 PM ARRIVE 15 MINUTES EARLY The Archdiocese of St. Louis mandates that anyone who will be working with children to attend the Protecting God’s Children class. This includes the parish staff and anyone who volunteers at school, coaches or helps with teams, PSR Catechists and aides, leaders or assistant leaders for Scouts, or any other activity that includes children. This attendance must be completed before working with children and is a one-time only requirement. Please call the Rectory at 966-8600 to register for the class. We have a limited amount of spaces available. Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out the registration form for the class. For a complete listing of upcoming dates at other locations, check the archdiocesan website, archstl.org and click on Protecting God’s Children Workshops. The list of classes is updated continually. ST. PETER YOUNG FAMILIES GROUP Are you a parent with young children who'd like to meet more of your peers? The St. Peter Young Families Group offers social, spiritual and service activities for families with children under school age. PETER AND PAUL SOUP KITCHEN The volunteers for St. Peter and Paul meals program served 142 hot and hungry guests on July 3 rd . The diners were happy to escape the 100 plus degree heat and enjoy cool beverages and a wholesome meal in the air conditioned dining hall. 10 volunteers served and worked in the hall, 14 cooked at home and 10 provided side items for the meal. A special thanks to our sub cooks (Tim Perry, Mary Carol Schilli and Marie Appelbaum ) who cooked for 3 vacationing regular cooks. We continue to collect toiletries, white socks and t-shirts for the homeless men’s shelter at St. Peter and Paul. Please drop the items off on the front porch at 311 Weston Oaks Court and we will take them to Soulard with us next month on Aug 3 rd . PETER ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 ABERDEEN GOLF CLUB MORE INFO TO FOLLOW!! ST. PETER WOMEN’S BRIDGE (Tai-Chi and Yoga for the Brain) Interested in playing Bridge once a month, having a great time, visiting with friends, making new ones, and improving your Bridge game? The 2012-2013 session starts in September and runs through April culminating with a luncheon at one of Kirkwood’s restaurants. The fee is only $10.00. Rounds are scheduled at the convenience of the four ladies assigned to play that month by the one who will be the hostess. It is suggested that you try to play sometime during the first part of the month just to maintain the flow of this social. Scores are sent in after each monthly game is played. A tally is kept. PETER… Come join us on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in Ursuline Hall in the Msgr. Deutschmann Room. This is a good hour-long workout that isn’t too strenuous. It will get you moving and keep those joints mobile. Silver Streaks is a chair-based class to benefit people with arthritis, stiffness or who just want to keep moving. Maybe you are looking for something to get you started, to go with your walking program or to add some variety. The program is designed to improve overall flexibility, balance and strength. Try it, you will like it. Cost is only $5.00 per session, payable on the day you attend. The instructor, Holly Ohmes, is certified by the Arthritis Foundation. July 22, 2012 ST. VINCENT DE PAUL RECENT ACTIVITY During the month of June the St. Vincent de Paul Society here at St. Peter was able to help 31 families with food, transportation, utilities, household needs and rent totaling $5,773. Foremost at this time is trying to keep electricity on for our families. Higher electric bills reflect the increased usage caused by the record high temperatures. Please consider a donation in the form of the blue envelopes in your parish envelope packets or by using the poor boxes located in the gathering area and at the side doors. Thank you for anything you can do. Please keep our clients and our members in your prayers as we go about helping those in need. STS. TERESA & BRIDGET FOOD PANTRY “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” Mother Teresa St. Peter parish donated 1,038 items of food for the food pantry at Sts. Teresa & Bridget for July. Thank you all very much. PLEASE REMEMBER: When planning a summer gathering ask your guests to bring a can or two of food to donate for those that can't give or attend nice parties. Donations can be dropped off all month. Please donate cans that are no larger than 30 ounces, anything larger is difficult to carry for all of us. STS. TERESA AND BRIDGET FOOD PANTRY . . . For those of you who are not aware of why and how this food pantry collection got started please read below: After visiting with Fr. Gary Meier, then the pastor of Sts. Teresa & Bridget (located on Grand & N. Market, St. Louis City), he explained how his parish and community are in great need. They have a food pantry that serves their area, open one day a week for 3 hours. Even though another county parish supplies canned goods once a month, the high demand keeps their shelves bare. They have had to reduce what they're able to give to those who come for help to a bag that holds just enough food for 2 meals. THIS IS WHERE WE COME IN. By collecting canned goods MONTHLY we can help make other peoples' lives better and respond to Jesus' call to feed Him when He is hungry. Donations are delivered on the 3rd Monday of every month. Please bring canned food in plastic bags about 4 days prior to the monthly delivery date (3rd Monday each month) to our home, placing it on the front porch. We do patchwork and embroidered tops. If necessary, we can assemble embroidered blocks into beautiful quilt tops. Also, baby quilts for sale. For more information, call Theresa at 314-821-8433. 9 As further celebration of the “Year of Prayer,” St. Peter is providing a Prayer of the Month for our parishioners to detach and pray together as a family on a daily basis. Prayer of the Month July, 2012 A Prayer for a Family O Dear Jesus, I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family. May our home be the shrine of peace, purity, love, labor and faith. I beg You, dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us, absent and present, living and dead. O Mary, Loving Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, pray to Jesus for our family. For all the families of the world, to guard the cradle of the newborn, the schools of the young, and their vocations. Blessed Saint Joseph, Holy guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by your prayers in all the necessities of life. Ask of Jesus that special grace which He granted to you, to watch over our home at the pillow of the sick and the dying, so that with Mary and with you, heaven may find our family unbroken in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen. AUDITIONS FOR THE YOUNG CATHOLIC MUSICIANS The choir and orchestra of The Young Catholic Musicians will hold auditions during July in preparation for its 39th Year of service to the Church. These young people (aged 10-17) represent over 50 parishes and schools in the St. Louis area. They learn quality liturgical music and lead the music for Mass once each month at different parishes. Singers and instrumentalists (Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion) call Fr. Bruce Forman (314-231-7464) or Mrs. Mary Smith (314-962-9260) for additional information and to schedule an audition. Visit our web page at www.archstl.org/musicians. MEALS ON WHEELS: CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS: Come support older adults in the Kirkwood community by volunteering as a Meals on Wheels Driver. Five days a week the Kirkwood Senior Center delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors 65 years and older recovering from illness and surgery or homebound and frail.
