General Information<br />

Course Description<br />

This intensive course is designed to help candidates apply the “finishing touch” to their preparations for<br />

the 2004 American Board of <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> (ABIM) certification and recertification examinations. The<br />

course also provides a comprehensive overview of all areas in internal medicine for practicing physicians.<br />

All course faculty are affiliated with <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> and <strong>Mayo</strong> Medical School and have had extensive<br />

experience in training candidates for various certification examinations. Only in <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>’s <strong>Internal</strong><br />

<strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>Review</strong> – Certification and Recertification course will you hear from the authors of the <strong>Mayo</strong><br />

<strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> Board <strong>Review</strong> 2004-2005 book. This course is an extension of <strong>Mayo</strong>’s highly successful<br />

and popular tradition of annual board reviews for <strong>Mayo</strong> residents and fellows.<br />

Who Should Attend<br />

• Internists preparing to take the 2004 ABIM Certification examination<br />

• Internists preparing to take the 2004 ABIM Recertification examination<br />

• Physicians interested in a comprehensive review of <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong><br />

Faculty Disclosure<br />

As a provider accredited by ACCME, <strong>Mayo</strong> Foundation must ensure balance, independence, objectivity<br />

and scientific rigor in its educational activities. All faculty participating in a <strong>Mayo</strong> Foundation activity are<br />

Credit<br />

<strong>Mayo</strong> Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)<br />

to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.<br />

<strong>Mayo</strong> Foundation designates this educational activity for a maximum of 55 category 1 credits toward the<br />

AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she<br />

actually spent in the activity.<br />

The American Medical Association has determined that non-US licensed physicians who participate in<br />

this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA category 1 credit.<br />

Educational Grants<br />

This course is supported in part by educational grants, in accordance with ACCME Standards. At the<br />

time of this printing, a complete listing of commercial supporters was not available. Appropriate<br />

acknowledgment will be given to all supporters at the time of the meeting.<br />

Objectives<br />

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:<br />

• Identify common manifestations of uncommon internal medicine problems<br />

• Identify uncommon manifestations of common internal medicine problems<br />

• Describe the appropriate evaluation and management of internal medicine diseases likely to appear on<br />

the ABIM examination<br />

• Describe techniques and methods which will improve test-taking skills.<br />

Date and Location<br />

The <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>Review</strong> course will be held July 11-17, 2004. Course headquarters will be located in<br />

Phillip's Hall on the first floor of the Siebens Medical Education Building, <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>, 100 Second<br />

Avenue Southwest, Rochester, Minnesota. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and<br />

pedestrian subway, which connect <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> to shops, restaurants, and hotels.<br />

Rochester, Minnesota home of the world famous <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> provides the perfect setting for this<br />

intensive seven day course. Voted the “Best Small City in America” by “Money Magazine” in 1999, this<br />

beautiful mid-western city provides quality facilities and serene surroundings to support your study efforts.<br />

Course Materials<br />

• Question and Answer book contains ~ 400 “board simulated” questions/answers with detailed explanations.<br />

• The course textbook, <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> Board <strong>Review</strong> 2004-05, is a comprehensive textbook<br />

written by the course faculty and other <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong> physicians. For ordering details, look under the<br />

Registration Information<br />

Areduced “Early Bird” registration of $950.00 (physicians) and $850.00 (residents) is available if you<br />

register by June 1, 2004.<br />

Question and Answer Session<br />

The <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Internal</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> Board <strong>Review</strong> course uses a state-of-the-art audience response system to<br />

provide the attendees with instantaneous results on “board simulated” questions. Upon registration at<br />

the course each attendee will receive a “Question and Answer” book that correlates with each lecture<br />

given. At the end of each lecture, a fifteen minute segment will be dedicated to testing your skills by<br />

responding to questions. You will press a button on an individual key pad and within seconds, a second<br />

screen will show the results of the groups response. The correct answer will then be explained by the<br />

instructor.
