Construction Site Safety
The essential health and safety qualification for the building construction industry.
Site Safe, in collaboration with Unitec New Zealand, has developed the Certificate in Construction
Site Safety to provide both the essential training that employees in the construction industry need to
gain access to construction sites and to enable construction workers to develop as health and
safety experts in their chosen sector.
The New Zealand construction industry needs more workers with an increased level of health and
safety knowledge, whether in a worker or management position. This Certificate aims to provide
individuals with training and a qualification that leads to lifelong learning and the development of
leadership skills in health and safety – skills to promote a culture of safety and best practice in the
construction industry.
What’s involved?
• Participate in a range of Site Safe courses.
• Each time you attend a Site Safe course you gain Site Safe Certificate Credits – each course is
valued at between 3 and 12 credits.
• Achieve 40 Certificate Credits to complete the Site Safe Certificate in Construction Site Safety.
• Choose courses that are most relevant to your trade and background
• Enjoy flexibility – there is a wide range of courses from which to choose.
• Some compulsory courses but most are elective.
• Work at your own pace – there’s no time frame for completion.
• The added bonus of gaining Unit Standards on the National Qualifications Framework – unit
standards, attached to most Site Safe courses, enables trainees to also earn credits towards
National Certificates relevant to NZQA registered industry qualifications.

Certificate Regulations
1. Only two Site Safe Construction Passports can be counted towards the Certificate’s credit talley
on an Individuals Record of Learning.
2. All higher level courses can only be counted once towards an Individual’s Record of Learning.
3. Courses that attract an assignment can only be counted if the assignment is passed.
4. Supervisor Gold Card Update course credits can only be counted towards an Individual’s
Record of Learning if the Supervisor Gold Card has been previously passed and credited.
Prerequisite Training for Achieving the Certificate
To complete the Certificate in Construction Site Safety, you must have completed the
Construction Passport. You must also complete the Advanced Passport or/and Leadership in
Safety Course
On Completion Received
• The Official Certificate – a New Zealand Recognised Qualification through UNITEC Institute
of Technology
• Site Safe’s Highest Level Card
• The ability to access the Certificate Continued Professional Development Programme in the
form of a forum with other holders of the Certificate in Construction Site Safety.
Achieving the Certificate in Construction Site Safety is recognition of a commitment to safety
training and a proud statement that you, and your employer, have made to safety in the New
Zealand construction industry.
