Source of Data
Statistics on the demand and supply of
gazetted hotel rooms and cess collection
are based on monthly statutory returns
submitted to Singapore Tourism Board
since April 1994 except for statistics on
“rooms available” that published in the
‘Forecast on Gazetted Hotel Room Supply”.
These figures are obtained from annual
survey conducted by STB.

Room-nights calculated based on total
hotel room inventory for all gazetted
hotels.
available room-nights
Room-nights available for occupancy
exclude rooms closed for renovations and
staff use as declared in the statutory forms
on a daily basis.
gross lettings

cess
Cess is an imposition of tax on certain types
of hotel and food and beverage
establishments which have been gazetted
under the Singapore Tourism (Cess
Collection) Act Cap. 305C. The cess rate has
undergone changes as follows: 3% prior to
1990, 4% from January 1990 to March 1991;
3% from April 1991 to March 1992 and 4%
from April 1992 to March 1994. With effect
from 1 April 1994, the cess rate has been
reduced to 1% .
