Source of Data<br />
Statistics on the demand and supply of<br />
gazetted hotel rooms and cess collection<br />
are based on monthly statutory returns<br />
submitted to <strong>Singapore</strong> <strong>Tourism</strong> <strong>Board</strong><br />
since April 1994 except for statistics on<br />
“rooms available” that published in the<br />
‘Forecast on Gazetted Hotel Room Supply”.<br />
These figures are obtained from annual<br />
survey conducted by STB.<br />

Room-nights calculated based on total<br />
hotel room inventory for all gazetted<br />
hotels.<br />
available room-nights<br />
Room-nights available for occupancy<br />
exclude rooms closed for renovations and<br />
staff use as declared in the statutory forms<br />

Rate<br />
cess<br />
Cess is an imposition of tax on certain types<br />
of hotel and food and beverage<br />
establishments which have been gazetted<br />
under the <strong>Singapore</strong> <strong>Tourism</strong> (Cess<br />
Collection) Act Cap. 305C. The cess rate has<br />
undergone changes as follows: 3% prior to<br />
1990, 4% from January 1990 to March 1991;<br />
3% from April 1991 to March 1992 and 4%<br />
from April 1992 to March 1994. With effect<br />
from 1 April 1994, the cess rate has been<br />
reduced to 1% .<br />
Refers to both paid and complimentary<br />
lettings.<br />
