Conclusion
The private papers of banking families can provide important source material
for the study of private banks. They become even more valuable in this respect
because in many cases the corporate records of private banks are meagre or have
not survived. I hope that this chapter will encourage both the further investigation
of the role of private banks and the use of this under-appreciated resource.
