Fabrication weldability tests that incorporate welding into their execution can be broadly classified as (1) restraint cracking tests, (2) lamellar tearing tests, (3) externally loaded cracking tests, (4) underbead cracking tests or (5) simple weld metal soundness tests. Some of these tests can be used to detect the susceptibility to more than one type of defect, while others are intended as single purpose tests and still others may be go/no-go types of tests.
