“I am very well aware of my profile slightly unusual for an Alliance
Française, but I know that I got selected by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs because of my long experience as an Administrator and
Manager. For the conventional missions of an Alliance Française,
namely the teaching of French language and organising events
to spread awareness on French and Francophone culture, I
know that I can rely on the knowledge and skills of the Alliance
Française staff, although I have some ideas to bring along. But
beyond my profile of civil service, I have entrepreneurial skills as
needed in the private sectors, and I wish that Alliance Française
will become a happening meeting place for locals, Indians, French
as well as other foreigners. In other words, I wish to continue
my predecessor’s efforts of good management to promote this
Alliance, reflecting the dynamism of the Indian state in which it
operates.”
Why people learn
French? Because…
• French is spoken in all 5 continents by
more than 200 million people.
• It is a platform for education in
France (cost competitive than other
developed countries) which is the
third most popular destination
for higher studies in French and
English medium (more than 2.7 lac
CINÉ CLUB
Explore the French art and culture through films...
Theme of the month: Historique
Les beaux gosses
Date: 21 September | Time: 01:00 pm
Venue: AF Baroda Annexe
Synopsis: This wild, raunchy, gag-a-minute French farce
concerns Hervé (Vincent Lacoste), a skirt-chasing 14-yearold
boy struggling to contend with social awkwardness and
the fact that he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. Nor do
female respond favorably to him either: he suffers rejection
after rejection, until he draws some attention from gorgeous
and popular classmate Aurore (Alice Tremolieres). Suddenly,
with Aurore at his side, Hervé lands in the middle of the most
exclusive social circles, but finds himself surrounded by a series of wild and unruly characters.
Meanwhile, he struggles to contend with the emotional ups and down of a young adolescent.
Bancs publics
Versailles rive droite
Date: 19 October | Time: 01:00 pm
Venue: AF Baroda Annexe
Synopsis: Bancs Publics chronicles three intersecting
stories in the city of Versailles: an office worker who hangs
a banner reading “Lonely Man” beneath his window,
the feuding families and couples in a busy town square,
and the employees and customers of a local shop. This
sprawling and droll exploration of the estrangement
of modern life boasts a star-studded supporting cast
that features a veritable who’s who of French cinema,
including Olivier Gourmet, Emmanuelle Devos, Mathieu
Amalric, Chiara Mastroianni, Hippolyte Girardot, Pierre Arditi, and the grande dame herself,
Catherine Deneuve. ~ Sandra Bencic, Rovi.
