Ghost Orchids, Decay and Art
The World of Deby Ouellette
Who is 5 ft. 2 in and 90 pounds of fresh ideas? Hint is it not Sister Bertrille!
But it is Deby Ouellette.
Deby divides her time between Denver Colorado and Palm Springs. Never sitting still
for long Deby juggles the roles of Executive Producer, Marketing, Philanthropy, Casting
Agent and Mother. She is what some call a Renaissance Women; she is what I call
friend.
Ghost Orchid Films (www.ghostorchidfilms.net) was created in 2012 by Deby. Her first
project is a haunting film, DECAY. Based partly on actual events, the story follows
one person’s mind and another person’s body into decay. “Decay represents the
psychological thrillers that form some of my earliest film experience. Who could forget
Jack Nicholson uttering “Hereeeee’s Johnny” in The Shining? It gives my smiles and
chills all at once!”
“DECAY is the story of Jonathan, a middle-aged grounds keeper with more than a touch
of OCD. He finds an unexpected guest in his home. Not a Goldilocks and the three bears
guest, this guest dies leaving Jonathan to handle the situation. Like any sane person, he
invites the corpse to dinner, and from there,” continued Deby, “life gets interesting!”
The film is currently in the festival circuit, and hopes to be one of the 2015 Palm Springs
International Film Festival entries. “This movie is the first featured directed by Joseph
Wartnerchaney. It stars Rob Zebrecky, amazing actor and respected magician. Our cast
includes Jackie Hoffman, who also co wrote GARDEN STATE, Lisa Howard, from the
Twilight Saga and Broadway, and Elisha Yaffe, co-creator of the web-series, including
Downers Grove, Minor Stars and Remember When. “
“I am very passionate about the arts – all arts. I am working with Palm Springs Artist
Juan Manuel Alonso. He is a paints with the vibrancy of color to create telling abstract
works. I am working with Daniel Cardone, another Palm Springs resident. His short film,
Incident, is just the beginning for him. Daniel’s latest project, Desert Migration, follows
those living long term with HIV, is very important.”
But movies are not the only thing that drives this hummingbird of energy. “I believe in
giving back, and helping those who have helped us or need our help. I am very active
in the Wounded Warrior Project. These people gave up so much so we can, well make
movies, and enjoy our freedoms. I am working on a Palm Spring’s UFO Annual Charity
Benefit,” said Deby. “I am inspired to work with these causes because of my father. He
was a military man with honors for bravery. My dad inspires me to never give up on life,
on our service personnel, and on those in need.”
What is next for Deby? “I never rest. I live life and that means being active. I am thankful
for my friends, for this life, for the ability to create my own art, and I am humbled that I
can help others”
And that is what 5ft 2in and 90 pounds of energy can do.
