The recent global crisis has brought many
challenges. But it has also provided some
important lessons.
It has shown us that we need to take more
control. If financial markets and institutions
continue to dictate the goals of business,
making profit our exclusive concern, then
crisis will be a recurrent reality. Long-term
value comes from seeing financial growth as
part of a bigger picture encompassing society,
humanity and the environment. We also
need far greater transparency. The rise of the
Socially Responsible Investor suggests that
openness is the way forward. I believe we
need to go beyond mere profit to build
a stronger bond of trust between finance,
business and society. This will give us the
freedom and confidence to fully embrace the
challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
