2008
An expansionary R787-billion infrastructure expenditure plan (9,7% of GDP) between 2009 and 2012
is recorded in the 2009 Budget Review. This significant expansion of economic and social infrastructure
is set to continue into the next decade, as reflected in government’s Medium Term Expenditure Framework
(MTEF) and, in the context of the current global downturn, is likely to provide our economy with
an important buffer against recession.
