Activities
Latino Summit Scholarship
Benito Juarez has been recognized by the
Latino Summit Scholarship Committee
with a $500.00 scholarship. Students from
thirteen schools in the suburbs compete for
this scholarship. In order for a student to
be awarded the scholarship, he must have
participated in the Latino Summit held
each year in November at Harper College.
In addition, to participate in he summit,
applicants must demonstrate a drive and
leadership qualities within the community.
Benito was instrumental in planning a wide
variety of activities such as toy drive, a variety
of LASO activities.

(MVA) Awards
Summer Transition Program
These five outstanding Huskies, Mary
Martin, Paul Frederick, Sam Kim, Sara
Douvalakis, Lauren Nagle, Pauline Yosep,
Jessica Lynk, Anatasia Kondyukh each
volunteered 60 plus hours this summer to
work in the Summer Transition to High School
Program for incoming freshmen. During their
summer vacations, these eight tutored over 50
freshmen in writing and reading. They edited
papers, worked on critical thinking skills,
and helped improve reading comprehension.
These students are true leaders. Thanks to all
of you for your tireless dedication to serving
your fellow Huskies.
Student Giving
Sarah Mulroe volunteered as a student
aide for a full summer school semester. She
dedicated this time by aiding in multiple
classes. She helped some freshmen read
the required summer reading, administered
accommodations, tutored, assisted in the
teaching of social skills, and escorted a
student, which resulted in building a comfort
level for them to begin high school. Sarah
showed compassion, patience, and love for
helping others. She was a valuable asset to the
summer school program.
Puzzle Fund Raiser
Clarissa Cruz organized a puzzle drive and
gathered of 300 puzzles for less fortunate kids.
Hundreds of inner-city kids have educational
opportunities because of her work and care.
Thanks to Clarissa for her gratitude and for
her dedication. She is the Best of Huskie
spirit.
Student Helped Someone in Need
Malorie Tobias was in gym class when a
fellow students became sick during a 12
minute run and Malorie stopped on her own
run in order to help the student who became
ill and give comfort. We are so proud of
Malorie for her compassion and kindness
shown to the student.
Great Improvement Achieved
Some of the Hersey staff would like
to recognize Jennifer Kraybill for her
tremendous growth over the last three years.
Jennifer has turned around her academic
performance. Jennifer hopes to pursue a
career in dietetics at Western IL University.
